Vintage shots from days gone by!

Looks to be a 1958 DeSoto Diplomat.

 

Vehicles from a mix of sources; English Bedford CA van at left and then a BMW sedan - 510 or 502? Dunno what the van is. Volvo van and Peugeot wagon in the background.

 

Note the 1935 Chevrolet convertible sedan. A Euro body maybe? If it is a US model then a very rare car - production only 217.

 

A Kaiser Manhattan(?) on the right. Whatever it is not a common sight in Europe I guess.

 

Renault Floride (convertible) in the middle of the road.

 

Any thoughts on the convertible at right? Looks to have GM Dubonnet knee action front suspension. The dark car on the right is a Fiat 1100 I think.

 

Wonderful photos, Bob - you sure put some effort into these nice big clean scans. I like all the German stuff - two of my uncles were stationed there in that period; one in Berlin in the late '50s and one in Darmstadt in the mid-'60s. (I already posted the Berlin images here a couple years ago). Looking forward to more!

A visit from high ranking British Officers from neighbouring British sector, judging by the uniforms, and red hat band on Army officer with back to us getting out of car (red band denotes staff rank) and guy getting out of car on other side has white cap top so will be Royal Navy staff officer. You can just make out the small Union Flag emblems on front bumper of the Merc (and an emergency blue light)
