Amilcar C4 in my fathers garage. This is his new project. I have seen dozens of cars turned out of this tiny workspace, water runs through the garage when it rains heavily. He turns 80 in November. Still at it almost everyday day.

    Syncro,
Thank you on nice story about wonderful garage and your father! I think that I could spend there hours, just watching him working, chatting and so on... Of course, better should be if I had such old garage, but it is nice to know that somebody else has it and enjoy in it trough decades!
If you have some more photos or stories about garage, your father and his automobiles – please post that for us (or at least for me!)
As I am just 65, maybe there would be some chance to have a few years of such joy? Attached are photos of my modest workshop, moved from garage to basement...

    Regards,
    Zoran

My '35 F4 is starting to look like a car. Does anyone have suggestions for tires available in the US?

You might checkout what Coker Tires has to offer. Not sure what size rims you are running, but they offer a variety of vintage style bias-ply tires for old motorcycles and cars.

    Hello Airhead,
What's happened with your magnificent roadster?
Maybe I missed something, but I didn't find recently any text or photos...

Those are 19" wheels, I think. I use 19" Dunlop tires in the front MG TC wheels and a Sidecar tire on the rear. Do not mix radial and crossply tires.

Aloha Zoran. I just recently started back up on my Cyclecar project after a few year hiatus. I was still following this thread, but embarrassingly had forgotten my password and had abandoned my old email address so I was unable to post until last night when I finally remembered my password. I guess I'm getting old. Anyway, I had hit a few roadblocks on my build and was distracted by other projects, so the Airhead Roadster got pushed into the corner until just recently. My desire for the car to be low and sporty was causing a number of design challenges with various systems of the car including steering, brakes and driveshaft. So I decided to go back to a more traditional stance and seating position which solved most of the issues and allowed me to regain momentum on the project. Now that I'm back at it (and remember my password), I will be sure to post updates more often. This thread is always motivating and inspiring. Thanks to all who contribute!

    Zoran,
I'm 47 and struggle to keep up with my fathers enthusiasm and motivation. He keeps telling me 'don't think about it, just do it'. As you can see from the photo there is a collection of very well used hand tools a few machines and the patina of many hours toil.
He is quite active on the AACA forum. Here's a few links to just some of his activities.

Mine are actually 18" wheels. There seems to be a lot more choices in the 19". Right now I'm looking at either a 4.50-18 Longstone block tread or a Lucas Olympic tire, both crossply.

    Aloha, AR!
What to say: living at Hawaii, to have nice garage and to make wonderful special - using BMW boxer engine!
(such engines were my old love, but Hawaii and good workshop too)

From late fifties, we in old Yugoslavia consider every BMW 500 boxer as sporting motorcycle! They were mostly bought from Militia (Police) and used as family transport, often with added sidecars. Later, they were used in amateur races...
    --- ---
Similar problems with passwords I had in some of many forums where I am member. Often had to open new account and become new member...
    --- ---
Keep going with your project and soon rolling – and, inform us with photos and text!

Your blog is nice and very informative, but this thread is right place for that, too!
There are not many stories about reconstruction of classic cycle-cars, or building new!

    Ciao,
    Zoran

    Hello Synchro,
    (Bernie Junior?)
I enjoy in reading your father's stories about reconstruction of classic cars (three mentioned and many older projects)... He is living encyclopedia about classic cars and their reconstruction! Informative and nice text, wonderful photos! Good spirit and attitude!
Packard is magnificent, Amilcar is cute but I prefer Lagonda Rapier! The best that all of them are good for road use, or will be when finished!
    --- ---
In 1967/68 my brother “needed” (just strongly wanted) an automobile for last months in Secondary Civil Engineering School and especially for graduation (exam and celebration). As our father was against such idea and didn't give him family Fiat 600D (made under licence in Serbia as Zastava 750) for such "lunacy" – he decided to have one own! (watching too much of American films?). Therefore, we bought old and not-so-bad Fiat 500C Topolino Belvedere - it was just old auto, not consider as classic at all! After we repair it a little and registered it, we spent a lot of happy hours driving it across and around Belgrade with friends! After some crash, we reconstructed it totally with a help of friend in backyard of our building... Then we think how it would be nice if that could become our hobby and even profitable one, in spite that didn't know anything about such things happening all around Globe...
I am happy to see how many persons realised such dreams and plans!

    Ciao,
    Zoran

Glad you had a lucid moment and found your way back here Airhead. I remember looking with interest at your dropdown driveline. Looking forward to updates.
