Well Brandon. I've been looking at cars for a while now & I do really like the look of this one & I keep coming back to it. But maybe I should just wait.

Is this something she does after I get the car, or does she handle this before the sale?

GreaserJosh.....after. Take this in the helpful spirit it is intended....sometimes what looks like a good deal...aint. Do research on here and the web generally...learn from others mistakes.

  4. I****ume most of what she does is after but you should contact her before to find out what you should come home with when you buy the car. Did you ever find out how much wood is in that car (could be expensive)?

Don't know what state you are getting this from, but my guess is the wood is unusable. That's why the doors are tacked shut. Chevy also used the engine # as the vin. If you have your heart set on a 33 chevy 4dr maybe it's a good deal, but if it just seems like a good deal maybe you should find some thing you can see and touch before you buy.

Yeah. The wood is unusable. I'm aware. The guy has been completely open with the car. All panels are good. No floor. Bad wood. Like I said it's basically a shell on a rolling frame with the original motor & trans that doesn't work. I really like the look of the car but don't want to have****le issues.

I have to ask ,are you capable of rebuilding this car? wood, metal, drivetrain ? If you can post some pics it would help.

  10. Go back to post #4
    Read it
    Do it

  11. While on the subject of vin #s would anyone know what number was used on a '26 chev roadster? The****le shows the "title no." and the "motor no." Which one would have been stamped on the car and where?

I would go the Donna route if no VIN tag is present, why don't you just call her and ask. I would 100% stay away from the State issuing a blue tag.
So if the seller has any record with the vin, that would help. It the seller is willing to check to see if the tag is still there that would help.
In this case sometime you have to weigh the headache of paperwork vs what you are getting.

This Donna sounds like a sweetheart, can you import her to IL for a while? I have this truck cab.....

I think, rather then asking a bunch of guys that may or may not know what needs to be done, I'd call the lady and ask her what she would like to see you to bring with you when you show up at her place of business. You can also ask her how much money you should bring along to get the job done.

It would probably be wise to consider if you have the time and patience to learn the skills and acquire the tools and equipment to bring this project to the point of your vision, within the time frame you have in mind. It is a pretty determined person that can spend years working on something to get to the point of driving it up and down the driveway, and then move it towards completion. I've seen a lot of projects get pushed into the back corner of the garage or yard and never get done. Gene

Well thanks for all of your help guys. I did call Donna. She said she charges $275 plus DMV fees. She prefers that you purchase the car first before she handles everything. In my case she asked me to see if I could obtain the serial # from the motor. I asked the seller & he texted me back that he sold the car today, which I take as he doesn't want to deal with the headache of the questions I'm asking & I'm being a pain in his****. Oh well. I'll just keep looking. Thanks for all your help & info guys. You are all the best.

  16. Abe,

What is the problem with the blue tag? I can understand it on a high point restoration not wanting a blue tag. I can understand it if you mean to avoid a "constructed vehicle" that would have additional requirements.

GreaserJosh13 I honestly believe that was a blessing in disguise for you. Just keep an eye out on the classifieds here and on the Ford Barn, Craigslist, local swap meets, car shows etc. and you'll eventually find something local or closer than out of state.
    Good luck

I think you are better off that he sold the car. A '33 chevy is a wooden car with sheet metal tacked to the wood. If the wood is gone you have to be a master wood worker to make new wood. It is not a job for the faint of heart!
I would never buy such a chevy without seeing the car in person.
