Just showing off the progress on the wiring of the 40 mordor sedan. Lights on all 4 corners now work. Took it for the official first ride today, about a mile down the road, then back. Rear shocks still need installed, and brakes need adjusting, but it's about ready to go to the muffler shop to have the exhaust rerouted.

George Gonsalves has owned this 40 since 1955. His son Joe now owns the car.

Jeez, no, sorry. Got the image off one of the many hot rod blogs I comb for '40 pics. At the first Hot Rod Reunion here at New England Dragway (now cancelled by NHRA) a guy from PA parked next to me with a black phaeton, really nice old school. Guess I never thought of that body style much until I got to look that one over.

Man that is like hitting the lottery on "year of manufacture" license plates, way cool!

  20. The convertible sedan on the Hop Up cover was a 38 Ford with a 40 front clip built for Ray Vega by Valley Customs.
Ray's mother hand tooled the leather interior.
Always one of my favorite customs.

I do have the original article, and I could scan it if that's what 39 guy wants. The car has been owned by Tony Handler for many years, and he completed its "sorta" restoration a couple of years ago:

It's not faithful to the original Vega version, unfortunately. The wonderful interior is long gone.

I joined the 40 club last night [emoji4]. Posies front spring, mildly built 8BA. I'm stoked. I'll post some more pix soon.. scored some stude caps too. The current plan is some fine tuning (carbs need to be dialed in) clean up some wiring and drive the hell out of it. Not a fan of the current caps so those are going and likely ditching the red wheels.

Edit- Can't get the pix to attach... Edit- they're attached!

    Dan,

The fronts are 205s. My old Cokers were 195s, but the Diamondbacks I wanted didn't come in that size. I was concerned that the 205s might rub, but so far, so good. Most of the 40s I checked out with 205s prior to getting mine had M II front ends, so that wasn't a good comparison for my I Beam.
