    The late Bob Brooks at the wheel. Bob founded BRC and built a lot of connecting rods before selling that business to Robert Goodwin. He then partnered with Frank Carsten in AFT (Applied Friction Technologies) and was the primary source of clutch components for most of the nitro teams for many years.

    Roo,
    I used to deal with Frank at AFT, what a great guy. Tom Topping turned me on to him, Frank could give you numbers and settings on a slider clutch, and talk in simple terms, to get a neophyte down the track. I remembered his last name to be Carstensen. I was told that he worked up here in the NW with Whipple & McCulloch back in the early 70's.

  6. This appears to be the Adams "Shark" digger without the rear body. It is running a Pontiac here, as it did for a time, probably MeEwen driving. anyone know for sure?

    I remember it like it was yesterday, in 1962 McMinnville Dragstrip, my little town here in Oregon, hosted the NHRA Divisional Drags. On Saturday night we went into town to check out the race cars at the local motels. When we stopped at the "Safari", the newest, nicest motel, the Dragmaster Dart, and it's twin, Earl Poage's "Cogs Dragmaster" were unloaded and parked side by side. I was a "Slack Jawed" 13 year old, enamored with those Dragsters, and hardly paid attention the the "Reath Automotive" Fiat close by. On Sunday, Jim Nelson won the event in the Dragmaster Dart, and though the next few years Earl Poage was one of the toughest competitors in the Gas Dragster ranks here in the Northwest. Earl's Father Terrell, was the NHRA Division Director for many years, and was probably driving the '62 Ford Wagon in the background of this picture.

    Maybe that is what's missing from today's drag racing cars!!!!

    Back in the good old every drag car had a cool name on the side of it and many times I never knew who drove the car but I can still remember all the great car names.

    So many cars that became famous to me were cars like "Pure Hell" just to name one.

  20. There are a lot of things wrong today in big show drags. That's one of them for sure.

    I thing another thing missing is years ago you had more guys with with personalities and today I don't see a lot of that other then John Force.

    All of the rivalries between drivers and match racing were part of what made drag racing great.

  23. Joe Pisano's beautiful dark maroon '29. When he added the blower, this thing dominated A/GS at local weekend races.

    Jimbo you are right as it is so crazy with all the corporate money, that the drivers cant say a word till they have their neck strap in place on the driving suit

    I also agree about Joe and I bought me first set of pistons from him in 63'

    I bought many a sets of pistons directly from Joe. HEMI, mopar wedge and small block cheby. Great to deal with. Lots of stories he told of his racing adventures and what a personality!
