Projects 40 Ford Sedan "The Varmit" IS DONE! Successfully completed a Reliability Run

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Dan Hay, Sep 6, 2012.

  1. How does that exhaust manifold clear around the steering box? I have wondered if one of those clears good with the bent exit flipped to the driver side for my 39.

Alright, alright, alright, as Matthew McConnehey, a fellow Texan, would say ! ! Man, you have really busted ass on that ride. I remember when you brought it home, and it wasn't that long ago. Congrats.

  10. Thanks everyone! I hope to be driving soon. My biggest obstacle is budget. Registration, insurance, glass and exhaust put together is a lot of coin for me!

Clears good. In addition I'm running a hurst mount so there are no side mounts for the driver's side exhaust to interfere with, tons of room. A block hugger header would probably clear too, but this was cheaper and more trad.

Just needs some glass and she's ready to go?

  18. Little more than that. I need to finish up the floors so I can bolt the seat in.

Well Dan, you're a chip off the old block. Dad would be proud. Keep up the good work.

Very kool, Congrats on getting her running. sounds great!

That was one of the first thing that I was looking for when I got my sedan. I found a set locally but it doesn't have the kool story that came with yours. I thought I'd be the only one around running around with a set. Lol!............ I was told east coast ran them in the front and west coast ran them like you plan on your sedan.... Keep us posted with the progress.

  22. Either the carb needs a tune or it has a lumpy can. Don't know which. Went around the block on a 5 gal bucket.

  26. My interest in this thread is waning like my project.... I'm trying to get this thing on the road for the Hot Rod Hundred North Texas on October 29. Here are some update pics...

I found this pair of generic Merc caps on eBay CHEAP. I had resisted the Merc cap craze, but once I popped these on, I was hooked. Now for the impossible task of finding two more to match. I may step up and by new Merc cap repops for the other side.

I had to shorten the sedan latch brace because I installed the tool tray and floor different than stock. (See the EMS tool Tray Tech thread for an explanation)

With bluetooth technology, there's really no reason to install a stereo. This was $150 on Amazon, we bought it for Tailgating, but it's super loud in the back seat and has a 55 hour battery. Tunes are done!

Got the windshield and rear glass in, side windows will have to wait.
The car is rusty in strange places. There is nothing on the left side to attach the mirror to. It has rusted away. A friend suggested a 49-51 Ford mirror because it bolts into the center divider...

Fit looks great - I am redoing my Dad's 1939 Ford - 327 and stock steering box. Have some angle end Rams horn that are 2 inch collectors - on the car now. What is the collector diameter of the 3905364 GM manifold.
They really fit better than mine - this car has the Muncie 4 speed and z bar in the way also,
    Thanks

I am asking the same question about the crank mount chev. fan. My radiator sits up high to clear the fan and do not really want to install an electric one. Mr 40's has not sold them in many years.
