Hot Rods Another deuce build thread but hopefully different

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hb32, Mar 10, 2015.

  1. Motor is together. Notice the "C" in front of the "59A" as well as the "MADE IN CANADA"

Now it looks green! Nice job!

  3. Spent several hours bbq`ing and have 5 shocks apart. Picked up the seals to rebuild them as well.
Need to do some cleaning, inspecting and hope to have 1 for each corner.

    Engine is looking great!
Any details on how you dis-assembled the shocks? I've taken mine off the truck and want to rebuild them, but I'm not sure how.

    great job./////////

  7. Lots of heat !!
I had them on an old bbq for 45 minutes, quenched them in a bucket of water and before they cooled, put them in the vice. I used a large set of water pumps and carefully turned the cover off but a couple were hand tight. I had to bake a couple twice. Make sure the fill port plug is removed or serious injury could occur.

  8. From where did you order the new seals???

  9. Worzek (sp?) in Massachusetts is the 32 shock guru. Find him on fordbarn. He sells rebuilds so not sure if he is free with info, but can't hurt. He did my shocks.

    Gonna look great in there!

  12. Picked up some parts at a local swap meet on the weekend, stock gen, fuel pump and rod, stock coil and bracket as well as 4 original shocks bringing my total to 11 so hope to get 4 serviceable.
I am using an original V8 fan bolted to the front of the gen but am going to need a crank pulley and not sure what will work, can anyone point me in the right direction?

hb32 any long snout 59a series pulley should work for you, they are more common to find in the crank mount fan pulley or the extended double groove variety. Either pulley can be made to work by taking the fan mount or the forward most groove off at the spot welds. If you aren't having any luck on a pulley, I do have a NOS extended double groove (C21A-6312 part number) but I'm sure you'd be able to find one out your way!

Thanks for the bbq tip . Mine are soaking in molasses if that doesn't work then I will try the bbq.

  16. Picked up my MT front and rear backing plates this afternoon.
Anyone know if the original grease retainer rings will clear the shoes and hardware ?

Looking good!!! Any luck finding a pulley?

  18. Thanks. Added a pair of water pumps that have the mounts removed as I am using original 32 engine mounts. Also shortened the rad support rods as they were for the 4 cylinder No pulley yet and have to start looking seriously.

Let me do a little checking, I think I have a couple spare extended dual grooves, the c21a-6312's. If I can find one, I'll machine the outer pulley off so it'd work in your truck. Pretty common deal.

  20. I assume you noted that the diameter of the support rod decreases after the threads making it impossible to just continue the threads. I mention this only to be sure you have done a fit check on your shorter rods.

  21. That would be fantastic !!

  22. Never noticed that and re threaded about 5/8" to make it work. Threads look fine and nut is not loose on the threads.

I've got a pulley here, I've just gotta machine the outer off of it and it'll be good to go!

  24. I am overwhelmed... Thanks !!!!

  25. Since what I am trying to say doesn't make sense my guess is that your rods are not original. After the threaded section at the radiator the rod diameter drops down to allow a IMG_3409.jpg nut to slide along the rod to the end that attaches to the firewall. Thus if you tried to thread an original beyond the existing threads the rod diameter would be too small.

  26. Here are the rods I have.

  27. They sure look correct. I am surprised there was enough meat to continue the threads.

They measured up to be the right length for 4 cylinder rods.

Charlie and HB, I threaded my origninal 4 cylinder radiator rods down just like HB did and it worked fine for me too. Must be that not all rods were necked down like Charlie's.
