Pfttttttt its worked this long, why mess with a good thing. I seldom cheap out on things that will keep me on the road, rollin and cheesin'. That said, I seldom run "race" filters, but if I was worried about it I would spend the cash on a bonafide racing filter.
I'm looking at the website, and they only show 28µ, 60µ and 115µ screen sizes. But more important than that, what is the beta ratio? Or the efficiency rating? It's one thing to filter down to xµ, but how efficient at that size is the real question. If a filter mfgr claims their filter removes contaminants down to 3µ , well, that's fine, but how many of those 3µ particles does it catch? If 100 particles are sent through it and 99 come out, it's not very effective, is it? That's why the industry has Beta Ratios, and Efficiency ratings. Notice how the Oberg website doesn't mention anything about that? Wonder why? In my business I see all kinds of aftermarket oil filter ***emblies (air filters too), and the mfgr's make all kinds of claims of superior performance, longer life, etc. Rarely do they live up to their hype. Good luck with it man, I wouldn't run it. And I would bet a standard OEM spin on filter outperforms the Oberg in removing particulate contamination.
I ran Oberg Filters on Both my Turbocharged Mistsubishi Rally cars and my Ford Ranger Desert Race Truck. These are some of the dirtiest and harshest environments a motor can be subjected to and I never suffered any accelerated engine wear or failures due to dirty oil issues ~ from the dirt the oil ****ed into the motor, or from normal race engine wear. Scientific? Hardly. But Thousands of Baja Race miles was good enough proof for me.
As long as the by p*** stays closed and the OEMs can handle the volume/pressure maybe so...But I was impressed by what it trapped; the alum mud was even hard to wash out, like silver metalic paint...Almost 40 years on that filter and around 40k miles and they still in business not to mention the engine still is too.. ...Three seconds of by p*** on cold start up and the rest of the time full flow got to be worth something..

Well guys, the filter industry has developed the Beta Ratio and Efficiency ratings for a reason, lot's of "snake oil" so to speak in that industry. Oberg being in the business obviously knows these terms and has access to run the tests, why would they not publish the data? Not even mention it? I think I found the answer to my question I thought the gold and silver filters were both Wix not so the silver is a champion the gold is worth $3 more to me. Another thought at 60 deg how long after start up does it take with 10w 30 oil before the filter is in use? How much longer for 15-50?
NAPA Gold & call it a day. As good a filter as you can get for $even bucks. I ran the Frams back in the early 70s w/no problem. Had one fail (Fram), late 90s. Never looked back. (now let the Fram hatery begin )
As far as the Oberg goes: The original was rated a 3 microns. I installed one on a fresh BBC 427 in an OT truck. After about 20 or so miles the tattle tail light came on. After I cleaned it out I never had to clean it as long as I had the truck. IF I remember correctly (been a lot of years ago) Moroso bought out Oberg and you could not and still can not get a 3 micron screen. after that I got out of the parts business and really lost track of a lot of things.
CarQuest filters have not been furnished by WIX for about 2 years. CQ is made by who knows? Some Champ Labs, some Hastings, some Chinese. CQ went to hell when Advance Auto Parts bought them. WIX has not been ***ociated with DANA for over a decade. WIX was recently sold to MANN & HUMMEL. WIX, still the best for any internal combustion engine IMHO.
I still remember them being called "Farmer Filters" not saying anything bad about them just what they used to be called in Rural America.
I guess I got an original [1980 or so] as the literature says 3 microns and describes like you found; it will pick up so much junk you'll be surprised..I lucked out; should have bought more screens I guess..
I only use NAPA Gold filters. Superior filtering qualities. As ha been said that filter is made by Wix, and you can't get any better than that.
