Wondering if anyone has pics or comments on a good 28/29 model a coupester. Not talking about leaving the pillars either. I remember a while back a car where the was a pan below the frame and the frame was open to the driver. Had a truck grill I believe and I think it was a coupe turned roadster. Any help is great please.

  4. I have only seen one: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1930-coupster.959503/ It was so nice that I actually wrote down the site. Note the doors are longer than the roadster doors making it easier to get in and out. Most of them turn out to be disasters with door tops wide enough to set a Coke can. People spend more time and money than if they had just held out for a roadster in the beginning (or bought a Brookville).

  5. image.jpeg I've seen some with the windshield posts cut down and the proportions just right that I liked. But, I can't find the photos I had.

This one as mentioned above is cool enough for me.

  6. image.jpeg I'm not sure why people rag on a coupster model A when a 32 Ford Cabriolet is essentially the same concept.

Wow, yea. The one with the link is super nice and clean. I'll have to keep that in mind should I continue on with mine. No pics of the one I posted anyone?

If I am understanding your title/question correctly then you are currently of the opinion that coupsters are unappealing/undesirable.

I would love to know in your opinion what would make them unappealing.

....I have a bit of a dog in this fight, so very curious. Thanks

  11. I have seen some that were abortions and some that were done well.

I suppose tat a nice coupster depends on if you like them or not. the proportions will always be just a little different that a roadster.

I didn't mean to offend anderegg. I have always heard the argument that a coupe turned roadster never looks right and never looks good. The pictures on here have proved that wrong and showed how stunning they can look. I'd love to hear if anyone has tricks to making them look so good.

  14. The are two things that need to be addressed. First the doors. Many people just cover the slot where the roll up window went. This leave a wide flat area that looks like it was designed to set a can of coke. On the plus side if you rework the doors they are longer than a roadster door and it will be easier to get in and out of the car. The second area is the windshield where it meets the cowl and the area above the dash The roadster lines flow in this area but people frequently leave much of the coupe structure intact. The attached pictures are from my '31 RDPU and show the areas I referred to.

No offense taken at all, I was just curious what some folks thought where other builders had gone wrong. Had I not decided to build my roadster/coupster now, I had every intention of building one from a Model A/32 mostly because I would've loved the idea of roll up side windows.

Maybe.... Someday....but I built this model almost 17 years ago as a mock up for my retirement project after I quit racing, but then the notion to tribute my uncle's roadster took hold about 6 years ago. This was a coupster before I even knew what a coupster was....

Boy.... I never could have come up with that look, with the dirt(or asphalt?) track wheels. You need to BUILD IT! :)

I'm kinda proud of mine. The proportions are not the same as a roadster, it is true, but I like the longer doors and increased interior room. And, from the driver's seat you can't tell a coupester from a roadster at all. They are equally as much fun!

So to keep this going in assuming the interior length is a few inches shorter than an actual roadster? No more pics or info on the bare metal one I had posted?

More room in coupster I believe..

Here is one that was on ebay years ago. I have posted this one many times, because it fits the old ways of rodding lots more than the screwed up builds of today's history revisionists :)

    32 chassis/truck grille, wide 5s with caps, unsplit bones..etc

yea the hood needs fixing, but...

I'd say that the problem with a lot of coupsters I've seen over the years is that the whole car has too many shortcuts done on it as the "builder" saw it as a way to have a cheap roadster and everything ended up being a bit less than really nifty. Taking a good look at Missysdad!s car you don't see any shortcuts and it takes on the persona of a hopped up Cabriolet rather than a cut down coupe. Attention to the little details is still the key to have one look right.

Here's mine...more post-war jalopy, but you get the idea. 5" chopped out of doors/subframe, belt line added around back of cab, doors narrowed.

I look at it kinda like owning a 4 door but wanting a 2 door.

You can just weld the back doors shut.
You can do a better job by stretching the fronts and shortening the rears.
You could do a custom build where you shorten the car thru the back doors and leave the fronts alone.
You can get factory 2 door pieces and graft them into the 4 door to make a perfect replica of an original 2 door.

Theres a hundred ways to do it...so you just need to be capable enough to make it realistic or tough enough to deal with the people who don't see your vision...or just find yourself a 2 door and build it.

    Same thing with a coupester...
