Event Coverage KKOA Lead Spectacular

**THIS WEEKEND**



How I fight the summer heat, I go to hang out with a bunch of kool people in Salina, Kansas. This time next week I will be heading north to attend the event. One of my favorite shows to attend.



Looks like I'm running out of time to get the Merc back together so I will be driving the '39 Sedan. What will you be driving to the event?

I don't think im making it this year. Kinda bummed, but just not enough hours to get everything done. Next year.... I'm gonna make it!

 

I understand, I ran out of time getting the Merc ready. I'll be in Colorado Springs for the Carmageddon car show maybe you can make that one.

Cant get the 40 Ford Panel Truck done in time , BUT WILL NOT MISS THAT SHOW FOR ANYTHING !!!!!!!!

 

We will be there in the wagon.

 

i'll be there in my rusted out nissan 4x4 since they let in anything.

 

I am going to make it this year. I m looking forward to going to Salina.

Will be there. Both cars unfinished, so just spectator this year.

 

A lot of people make bad comments about this show. But how many people have met-George Barris, Gene Winfield , Bill Hines and many more customizers at this show. Plus you get to watch a car being chopped and a car being sectioned. I haven`t missed this show(Salina) in the past and don`t plan on missing it in the future. Don`t miss the Friday night version of the Tonight Show where the Hall Of Famers give away there awards. It`s educational for the custom car guy. I`ll be in the car in my Avatar. Stop and say hi. But I`m usually walking around, enjoying the show.

 

You're right about that, I've met George, Bill, Gene, Bo, Brad. And a few others. Where else is a Kansas boy going to do that?

I understand about driving in the heat. My Merc will not make the trip this year because I'm hooking up the A/C and
ran out of time to get it back on the road. It is hot but this year it looks like it will be 18 degrees cooler. That will be
a nice change.

Just got home about two hours ago. All in all not a bad show. There were a lot more customs this year than in the last few Spectaculars I've been to. The rxx rod attendance was way down, and the weather was actually very tolerable. It was still hot--I mean it is summertime, but the humidity wasn't as bad, and the upper 80 to low 90 temps were a pleasant surprise.

I think the strangest thing this weekend for me was the void that I personally felt not seeing George Barris around. Also, it was kinda hard to see Bill Hines' Little Bat there without Bill. Prowling around the project cars and seeing all the guys hard at work and not seeing Bill there was very different. Just goes to show what huge legends these guys were. They are missed!

It was great to get to meet face to face with a lot of my HAMB friends--@Sancho, @drdave and his super dad, @stanlow69 and @gonmad and his lovely bride. It was also nice to see some old friends like Mick (@straykatkustoms), Frank Lund, Bill Moore, VooDoo Larry and the list goes on and on.
It was a special treat for me to get to ride with @PasoJohn all weekend in his wild wagon and get to take it all in without having to concentrate on driving. Thanks John!
For me, one of the best things about going to shows is seeing the friends you only get to see once a year or even every other year or longer. Can't put a price on that!

I know the Leadsled is nothing like it was, and the CCR is THE show to see the best customs, and nothing but the best customs, but this weekend's show makes me think there is still some hope for the Leadsled Spectacular. E
