Well after cl*** today I was testing out a scooter for one of my cl***es and I decided to ride over to a area that is pretty damn bad in hopes that I would find something cool. First I saw a junkyard and started to head in its direction on the way there I spotted the top of a fifties bus and decided to check it out. It was a large lot that had a bunch of seventies stuff in it that I could see at first. Once I got close and started peaking through the fence in open spots I saw a late forties chevy coupe that was in pretty good shape and then a prestine 57 caddilac I was amazed, all I expected to see was some old rusty **** I mean this area is bad this was the only house on the block that was inhabited and not burned down. I had a camera but there was some suspious characters that were all cracked out so I decided to postpone pictures. A couple of blocks later I found a 58 edsel in kinda rough shape. Then the battery on the scooter started to die so I headed back. I hope to get back to that area soon and see if I find any other cars I'll post pics if I get any. Brent Wallace
Dont be to affraid of the hood, there are more good finds in the hood then you thought would be there. If you dont want to ring a door bell then collect the addresses and locate the property owners by internet and phone. In most cases the finds are almost free deals.
Yeah I agree with 1bustedbuick the hood is at times intimidating but worth it I mean I was a white skinny kid riding a pink electric scooter around and didn't get hurt. I can hear it calling my name now in fact.
I live about a block away from the tenderloin, its one of the roughest parts of San Francisco, one thing I've learned living here is if you dont act like you dont belong they wont mess with you, just avoid eye contact and you'll be fine usually....oh and a skinny white kid on a pink scooter? They probably thought you were a tweeker if anything (no offense)
Having walked almost the lenth of Polk at about 3am to get back to the worlds seediest motel I gotta agree with you.......
They probably remembered that movie with Michael Douglas, when he got lost on the wrong side of town. Was it called "Falling Down" ?
Yeah, Falling Down was the movie. Man, that was a good one too, I have that on VHS. "Take some shooting lessons, ***hole!"
Dont remember but if they are anything like the guy in "falling down": "wanting a wammy burger with fries" the hood will let them be.
Hastings, ghetto???? Well I guess it makes for a good story. I just didn't realise this was comedy hour! LOL
One day while driving through Irvington NJ, a few miles from my house (Jersians know about Irvington) I spot a 50 Merc 4 dr sitting in a backyard. 3 attempts so far to go to the house and ring the bell...nothing. It happens to be in the worst area the worst city in NJ has to offer, but I think Im about ready to go the investigative route and just start writing letters or calling. The only guy I found around, who happened to be a certified skreet pharmacist, asked "Whatchu wanna do with that Ol' Caddilac" I replied..."I like old Caddilacs"
da uppity all be cruizin in da'hood tryin ta score some ice fo dey shelves, ****!foo, you aint ghatz yo **** togefther...i gunna pop a cap in yo ***.
I was transferred to the Chicago area right after the riots. Jesse Jackson was in his prime keeping the fires going and Richard the First was on the city throne. Some of my best finds were in "distressed areas" and I never had problems getting things. It helped a little bit that some of the customers I did computer service at included Illinois Bell Telephone and the Chicago PD. I had them doing most of the spotting for me. Never drive up in a fancy car, I used a 63 Impala wagon as my parts chaser & tow vehicle back then. These days I search the boonies in Northern New England. Still follow the no fancy car formula. Just have enough money in your wallet in smaller bills to cover what you are looking at, the rest in your pocket for the next place.
I'm from Flint and I don't miss it at all... except for the junk yards..... There is a what I think is a 38 Chevy Deluxe sitting behind this ghetto house here in Racine.... I haven't got the balls up to get up to the door to knock and ask about it.... them pitbulls are busy chewing up what I believe to be a pink scooter.....
South side Phoenix has yard after yard of old cars just sitting there. There is one yard that every kid in phoenix had peeked over the fence...24st & Mcdowell one side of the yard is nothing but T's and A's about 15 or so the middle is old studebaker and other plymouths and the far side 50's cars all different makes. No one knows whos they are They have been sitting there as long as I can remember and I am sure way before my time......
School in downtown Detroit... Pink electric scooter with questionable battery life... I'm guessing self preservation isn't in the curriculum.
