COE COE Picture thread (imported from main board)

  1. Here are a few from Back to the Fifties in June. BTW Follow the Sun Express is one very nice truck, sits on custom frame rails and Freightliner axles. I don't know engine make, but it is a big truck diesel.

  2. BTW, I see there have been some good changes since I left, may have to drop back in for a while. Haven't done much on the Autocar due to motivational challenges. (In other words, I'm taking a break to get my head back on straight)

this was all at the same show? 3 COEs at one show? That's impressive. Was the yellow one really a ragtop?

Good to hear from you Steve . We have missed you . They just leave us alone over here . Blue

  5. Yup, the yellow one is a ragtop. Back to the Fifties is a 14,000 car show, so 3 isn't a very good showing. There may have been more, but it is hard to see everything at a show that large.
It was at this show back in the early 90s that I saw my first rodded COE and thought this is for me. 26 years later, I'm still trying to get one finished.

Steve! Glad you picked up the olive branch I tossed into the yahoo group. We need all of us big-ugly truck guys we can get in here. We're perfectly content to stay tucked away in these social forum back rooms.

When I went to the Good guys event in Rhinebeck, there were two other COE's staying at the same Motel. These things are getting as common as Deuce Coupes...lol

BTW: That little tow truck on the back of the green COE is the REAL DEAL! It towed midgets at the track back in the day! It's a flathead V8! I asked the owner why there were no plates on it, he said he doesn't drive it on the street. I said "Why not?!?"....

I would love to know what chassis, particularly front suspension, he is using.

  20. I think the copper/silver one was at Back to the Fifties a few years back, if the same one, it is on a late model IH chassis with a DT-466 for power. IIRC it was also converted to tilt cab. High quality all the way.

The red truck has an interesting front bumper.....anybody have a guess to what it started out as?

A buddy of mine here has a couple of IH school busses with 466's, I've been wondering if they would work as a platform for a "big truck" build or if they are too wide......not that I need another project!

  23. My avatar is on a Dodge dually axle and it is none to wide. A schoolie axle is the standard medium duty width, which isn't much wider. Both are 96" rear axles and schoolies have the standard 34" frame width.

I've been hankering to fetch a school bus for my COE foundation. Been intending to go measure front track width on a few. I think I could also repurp the bus body onto a Big Tex double-dually gooseneck trailer to combine as an oversized toy box with quarters fore and car hauler aft - sized to carry my matching F-100.

Funding and time - the perpetual hurdles.

  25. Speaking of Avatars mine is a 1947 Diamond T.......You gota love a truck who's motor is called a Hercules.

Does anyone have a picture of the copper/silver COE with the cab raised, I'd like to see how he designed it. Thanks

  27. I thought I had pictures, but can't find any now. Sorry!
