Yeah, I knew my memory hadn't completely left me. I thought that was an In-N-Out in the background. I remember going to lunch at Bob's with my parents and grandparents on the weekends and looking at the Donut Hole. Mesmerizing to a kid. It was always "no, we're going to eat" or "no, you just ate". They had me hemmed in at every angle. I was looking at Google maps trying to figure out exactly where Bob's was. I remember the bank too. Wasn't it Home Saving?

Id love to see an enhanced version of this pic. Too fuzzy, at least on my phone.

"I want this one and that one and these..."

  16. that is exactly what i was thought was going through his mind.
strange thing is, why was this photo taken? back in the day not everyone took a camera with them. and each photo cost money.

My thoughts exactly. I guess not everyone was brought up right in those days, not like us. : )

I bet there are a BUNCH of greybeards looking at this photo, and not even seeing that boy, but themselves.
It sure gave me a warm feeling remembering how I spent the better part of my younger years growing up in a small Oregon town.
There was a Sprouse-Reitz, a local chain department store directly across the street from my grade school and more than once, I caught hell for being late coming home from school because when I got to the model aisle it was like the proverbial "kid in a candy store".

Don't be so sure. I was a model junkie growing up (and my grades reflected it!). However, 95% of what I built was WWII related and primarily ground based vehicles.

Now I don't build any models because I'm obsessed with hot rods. Don't worry, he can be saved.

My cousin had a Firebird like that. Same color, but without the vinyl top. Fathom Green was a popular color in the late 60s.

I can easily recall several local model shops that were stocked like this. Pure heaven for this particular kid then. And then, as now, just needed more money.
