Getting back to the original post -

Stakes are part of the valve seat replacement. The heads are used and the seats haven't fallen out, so apparently they are ok.

Almost everything else here is good info, but not what the original poster asked.

Thanks to squirrel for getting things headed straight.

    Carry on! :D

Some of the older tooling was not as accurate as the later mounted carbide cutters. The staking is very ineffective, way too far from the seat. The seat needs a Serdi profiled cutter to remove that ridge and blend the seat into the bowl.
Lots of flow restriction as they are now.

LQQKs like they will as pinched/staked as they are...
    cant FALL out....

  8. I've had staked seats fall out. Doesn't mean that those will.

If I was going to check for cracks unless I had access to magna-flux cheap I would just die test them, then if they were suspect I would magana-flux.

if they turn out to be **** we can find bare castings easy enough and I have been known to ship to the Norland.

Another reason to move over to you guys ;) :D

    That's good to know!!! :)

While on the subject of valve location.....took some pictures of how they're sitting in the seats.
    Thoughts on this? :)

Had a set updated with hardened seats. Never became loose or fell out. And I am sure there are plenty of O.S. over sized seats that work fine too for those that lack appropriate press fit. if they loosen you will grow lash....valve moving down away from rocker. Other then that..........RUN EM...

"Yea. Could be the machinist in question stakes them all. They should not have to be staked. if the tolerances are correct the seat should stay by itself."

I agree with the above statement 100%. If you can't hold tolerance, you should not be machining. I'd drop dead if I did a job and had to do that. JC

Ok. Will keep an eye on valve lash.....will run a mech cam, so i guess i just have to check lash a litte more frequent than normal ;) :)

Set I had flowed with small 1.94 int and 1.50 exhaust. Seem to run OK on small engine. Get a chance to run them this Fall.
