I ran into and had a good talk with Dennis's widow. I worked with her at the Telephone Co. for thirty years. She was with a lady friend about our age and they were talking with a young guy who was trying to sell a flathead powered steel '27-'28 T roadster. Anyway in the conversation with the three of them I learned Dennis's T roadster is in the Sacramento area and being parted out and the present owner wants to make it into an Ivo T klone. The young guy already had the mag. wheels on the roadster he was selling and said he had the blower. I didn't get anymore info as he was busy talking up the roadster to prospective buyers. He did give me his business card. Maybe I'll call him and see if he will let loose of anymore info.
What a shame. That was a great car. I guess I missed that Dennis had died. He would have been getting up there in years though. I wonder what happened to the "A" Roadster he built after the "T".
Great news, but it sounds like it's in peril! I wish people could understand the significance of the cars they already own....
Ugh no doubt. Anyone out there with the means and dedication to get what's left, and marry it back together? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You know if somebody wants to build an Ivo Klone you should just buy a kit. You get the body, dash, frame. It would probably be easier just to start from scratch than change all the DeBenictis stuff around. Didn't think I would ever suggest anybody build a kit. Gary
Why in the hell would someone hack up one iconic car to build a f&cking CLONE of another? When you buy a heritage house, there are restrictions as to what you can do to it. We need laws like that for old hot rods.
Yea. Like the dipshit that owns the car, for one. This car had colour shots twice in hot rod that I am aware of, and a two page spread in '69. If you made a list of the five most iconic hot rods of the sixties, it would belong on that list. The first picture from hot rods '67 Oakland coverage hung on my wall when I was a kid. And some arrogant fool is cutting it up to build an Ivo clone??!!
A 28 T roadster, man that is rare. Have you called and enlightened the young man as to it's significance?
I didn't think of it Friday when I was talking to Shirley but she probably drove the red A to Pleasanton. I didn't know she was driving it. Glad she is. She probably drove Dennis around in it after he got so he couldn't drive. She didn't seem concerned that the T was being chopped up. Probably like Norm Grabowski they were pretty much over the T when they sold it. Although he seemed interested in finding it when I was looking for it. Gawd it's been four years since his passing.
