Event Coverage Chris Swenson wears a skirt/and has a slow roadster

  1. Well my car and driver did not perform well at all. I forgot how much of a rush racing is. I did a practice run and did ok, second run was against @RainierHooker and I think I rev'd the engine up too high as it would not go into second. It felt like forever trying to get the damn thing into gear. Evan took off and beat me by a good car length, but he red lighted so I went on to the next round. Third run was against @marshall and up at the light I reved it and dumped the clutch...car coughed and died right at the line. No idea why, car has never done that before. so marshall won fair and square. It was fun to see his passenger side door fly open at the end of the track though. I think Evan and I would have a pretty good race if I can get my shit together. I think we would both leave marshalls wheel hoppin hoopty behind.

BUT- no one broke anything except ego and we all had fun. We all shook hands, shared some beers and bullshit stories after the big race. Being there and watching the real cars race makes me wanna build something fast hahaha.

  2. Wow that's great, no one I knew took a video of that race. That was my practice run, the only decent run I did. Someone took my time slip off the board so I do not know what it ran. Good seeing all you guys!! Sam's car really moves!!!

It probably launched so hard the brutal g force stopped the fuel in the line from flowing...;) Well, that's what you can tell Marshall anyway...:D
I think you and Rainier need a re-match!

If you saw the footage from Chris's wife from the finish line.....Evan had 2+ car length lead....and blew the tires off at the line....

  6. Probably, time slips showed he was a 1/2 second faster. He also left before me hahaha

  7. Something like that ;) I took the air cleaners off for that round. I think I was close to 2000 feet lower for that track so it may have been running a little leaner. I thought of that after the fact. It fired right back up at the line but when I stopped to talk to guy coming back it died and had a hard time starting. I have not investigated anything yet. Seemed fine loading and also fine back home. It's probably just a combination of mechanical and driver error. I really wish I knew what I ran that first run, to see how far off I was from Evans best run.

  8. were you waiting in line for a while? maybe the carb/fuel line heated up too much an vapor locked?

  9. Yeah probably 20-30 minutes. My temp gauge never went above 140 but it was hot out. Does not really matter, I was disappointed. I also felt bad running the car like I did, it was not built to do that. So maybe it was a blessing in disguise!

It would have been easy a few pages back to be little what you guys did BUT I refrained from bashing all the participants because they went the extra effort to take the time, money and potential harm to some nice traditional rods. I and others here were just bystanders with no effort put into racing or even showing up for what looked like a great time (even if the times were slow)!
I too would like to build a car/truck to join in. My question, is it run what you brung?, brakets?, grudge?, written rules? How would a guy gear up for this type of loose racing and how many west coast events could a guy run in? Thanks!

It's all in fun brigrat, no one is belittling anyone. If you are talking about these three, I would think they could run pretty much anywhere, but this is the only event of this sort I am aware of in the NW. Mission runs a Nostalgia event in August put on by the Langley Loafers, but it's an NHRA sanctioned 1/4 mile, the rules are a LOT tighter. I think there's one at Ashcroft as well, but same deal as Mission. It's only once you get down into the 13's that safety rules get sticky for open cars.

This track is 1/8th mile...outlaw track. You can run ANYTHING. Helmet in an open car...seatbelts...done. Carry a passenger in a 10 sec. gasser....or run a TRUE 60s fed with no pussy NHRA nazi shit on yer car...
The Evil Twin made passes smoking the tires the full 1/8th. Mini bike drags 15 wide...
Fuck NHRA tracks....this is real deal fun.

I would be fun to do it next year with more cars.
All three of us beat are cars like hotrod were meant to be beat and nothing broke.
Now that we proved you can do it I would hope to see more cars there next year .
Unless you're all a bunch of fairground cruising pussies
    Love

I don't think I will have a billetproof friendly car ready next year, but probably the year after. Maybe we could organize a rocket vs cad vs hemi shootout. Pauls roadster has a 1000lb wieght advantage over my tank, AND he's skinnier than me!!

    ROFLMAO!! Paul knows my heritage!!
Pauls roadster will probably whip my big ol' tank, but once it's done, I'm game. I'll have to learn how to shift that big ol' cad-lasalle, it's probably gonna be a little different from a toploader...

More than that Marshall, aren't you limiting it to 3 speed transmissions too? Can't even race you guys for the money with a '60's 4 speed is what we heard.

Paul and I both have Cad-lasalles, we got that action covered;) But you know what, that's a good idea, if we are gonna have an overhead shoot-out, it should be limited to fifties era 3 speeds and banjos. Could be interesting. And gotta drive to track of course.
I am pretty much a committed overhead guy anyway, but after reading this thread, if there EVER was ANY thought of me building a flatmotor, believe me, those thoughts are LONG gone now...:p

A bunch of rules makes it not fun.
    Just pretend it's 1964....
No Th350s....no Holley 1450s...no gay marriages...
Flathead cars should just run against each other....they simply cannot compete with an OHV....unless it's a mini bike perhaps.
