I burnt the crap out of my starter trying to get my heap started, so I have to take time to tip my hat to Powermaster for hooking me up with 2 bad ass starters. They have an AMAZING killer refurb/upgrade program available to all owners of PowerMaster products. Just send in ANY Powermaster starter or alternator and they will replace all necessary parts to make it like brand new for a ridiculously low price. Enclosing name, number and ship back address , just like that, turnaround time if you mark it hot is 2 days max. I don't know many company's that do that!
There is no way that this could be anywhere near where it is now without Lee Kay and his Willys metal. Forever grateful.
I'm a little late to this party but I certainly have enjoyed the read! Incredible work and perseverance. Any chance anyone took pics, before they pulled it out of that river bank?? (just curious). Back in the late '70's - early '80's, there was a street rodding family, around Staunton or Stanley, Va. Mama drove a '56 Chevy sedan delivery. Each of the offspring had a rod, including a '41 Chevy 2 dr. sedan. Pop had a '40ish Willys pickup, that was found cut up in pieces, and dumped in a stream bed. The rest had been left in a barn or a shed. Maybe it was the Willys coupe they had, that had suffered that fate. I can't be sure, which one it was. I remember seeing the pick-up, as a roller. I don't think it was as far gone as your coupe, though. Anyone ever heard of them? Thanks all!!
We did some horse trading, but it is now in my possession Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
There was definitely a learning curve for me on the Hilborn but today I finally have it somewhat dialed in. It actually idols on it's own! Tomorrow I will install driveshaft and fill her up with trans fluid and she will move on her own for the first time in 40+ years, I hope.
Good things come to those who wait. Persistence and Ambition are the words that come to mind. It sounds like a Woodchopper!!! Hot rodders were the first recyclers otherwise that might have become a toaster oven.
My magneto stopped working on my Willys coupe today, so I pulled it out and noticed that the gear doesn't have any teeth. I think it needs teeth to work. I guess I should install a bronze gear to go with my cam along with dropping the pan and clean out the metal bits.....
I just couldn't resist the temptation or the price, I bought a fully blown 392 Hemi AND a bare stock block. I've been somewhat looking for a backup engine just in case my other Hemi blows up while racing, I hate down time. I have an extra Vintage Hilborn, but I think my Crower would look good on it.
