I think, Its a 1929 NASH Standard Six . And YES, we call those leaf springs, because that's what we were taught.

Studebaker Zip Van with what looks to be a 1963 Studebaker Wagonaire across the street.

  13. And another Lark up the street - so we know its a promo shot.

Kool. Never paid attention to who made postal vans.

  14. I believe it is a 1929 Whippet by the indentations in the hubcaps and other clues...number of spokes, taillight ...etc. The car in question has aftermarket bumpers on it. 1929 Whippet coupe.jpg

His voice was not powerful, but so unique and memorable. Great memories.

Three versions of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL at a glance: on the left, the Mercedes-Benz 1952 300 SL (W 194 series), next to it the racing car prototype (chassis number W 194 011) developed for the 1953 racing season (this prototype never raced), finally the 1954 series-production 300 SL .

I have a question if you H.A.M.Bers don't mind me asking on this thread, but it does concern some photos posted on here.I wasn't around in the 40s and 50s, but I noticed photos posted of those car carriers and how the manufactures would use their own brand trucks to pull the trailer, loaded with new cars. My question is this: What were those trucks using for powerplants?? I can't imagine Chevy using a 216 or a even a 235 to pull those trailers. Also, were they gas or diesel?? Thanks.

… ah yes, the Buick Century or rather Banker's hotrod that is… here we see it at work with it's owner Phil the local shylock banker who's apparently closing that big loan deal with Bob and Jimbo so they can finally open their own place …

a lot were 300 gmc 6's with a 5 and a 4 trans' and 2 speed eaton rears......with gearing you can pull anything..look at how the old tractors (AG) used to do with 25 HP....
At one time I had an old L600 Ford tow truck, with a v8 330 gas 2bbl, 5+4and 2 speed, and I used to haul loaded semi's (tractor AND trailer off the road....my right arm was huge from all the shifting...left leg too!!! ;)..truck had dolly wheels at the rear to help support the weight......you didn't go very fast, but you did go!!! It had a compressor and air lines and glad hands at the rear so you could release trailer brakes..... my tow0002.jpg

I do not think those trucks went too far,the cars were hauled in on trains from the plant to a somewhat local terminal so those trucks only went so far away from the terminal. There were not too many 4 lane highways back then too so the trucks did not have to go real fast and like what was said before they had plenty of gears to get them moving.
