Hello , I'm no trying to disrespect the guy selling the "1953 Chevy black primer " already chopped , which I think looks like a great car to start with , but I have to ask why is it still up for grabs , am I missing something ? Is sorting out the gl*** issue that problematic ? Somebody help me understand it . Again no disrespect to the owner , **** I wish I knew what I was was doin , cause I would love to have that ****er bagged & on the road !
Well, I'm one of the '54 Chevy guys, but I haven't been following what's for sale. Of course there are more then one way to skin a cat, but I would never do a car that way. A chopped car with no gl*** is a red flag to me because many people underestimate what it takes to chop a car properly. And some people overestimate their skill level. Many times they don't find out there is a problem till its time to put in gl*** and then they can't fit any. You are then left with fixing someone's possibly very shoddy work. It's not a deal breaker, but it is a red flag and I would personally very carefully scrutinize the work before purchase, or get a good enough deal to make the h***le worth it. I ***ume you are talking about this one? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1953-chevy-bel-air-chopped.1015899/
I chop cars, but NEVER without gl***. As the others have mentioned, you build the chop around fitting the gl***. If a seller claims that he has the gl***, but it it "needs installed" (which should read needs to be installed, if you speak English), that is a HUGE red flag. Just install the gl***. I hear people make excuses all day long why they cannot follow-through. I'm over it. If there is no gl***, then it was not present when the chop was done, that is not a red flag. That is a deal breaker.
if you are talking about the black one in the link low budget provided it looks like the back gl*** has been lowered into the package tray area and the frame around it has not been cut, so in theory, stock gl*** should fit fine. the thing is with rear gl*** like that if you did not brace the rear gl*** area before you cut it out and reinstalled it there is a good chance it got twisted and the gl*** will never fit right.
Non-ready to drive projects are a hard sell anyway. And the gl*** thing means the possibility of a huge amount of rework. If they have gl*** that fits, installing it would be a day's work and up the value by thousands. Occasionally there are ads for cars that say "could be running with a day's work". If that's a true statement, it's foolish on the seller's part. A car that only needs a fuel pump will only have half of it's normal value because a buyer can't hear it run, feel the trans shift, and will have to tow it home.
