Incredible work. Its no small feat to perfectly replicate an older hot rod/show car, or even to build a period-perfect car. It takes a level of dedication that most don't possess, or even comprehend. This car was an icon to me as a kid in the sixties, I'll be buying a copy of the book.

Amazing accomplishment on both the car and the book. Huge congratulations!

  3. Me too!!!

  4. Thanx for the info. That is still a pretty short 2-year run with the 4 year WWII hiatus in civilian car production. As I mentioned previously, I am a novice compared to most rodders when it comes to classic Ford stuff.

  8. You sir are an artist. Congratulation!

  9. Thank you for noticing. Almost ashamed to say that blasted thing took me SIX 12 HOUR DAYS to get right with no cracks or pits. Most difficult part of the whole build.

This shot should illustrate the quality and detail of Jeff's fabrication ability.

  11. Good news! I just received the proof pages for the book and am going thru editing typos now. Still have to write an index which will take a few all-nighters but it is close. They say they want to go to the printers August 27. Stay tuned!

Where do I buy a copy at?

  14. That's not fair! I haven't got my copies yet. It is listed on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I would appreciate it if you guys posted reviews on those sites. Publisher says those reviews add credibility to the books.

  16. Yes you can order it from McFarland, my publisher, too. If you go there browse through the amazing array of strange book titles they publish. Really interesting reading just going through their inventory. I call them 'Academic Pop-Culture' specialists.

Will mine be coming from you or McFarland, Jeff? Getting anxious......

  18. Unfortunately from me. If it was from McFarland, you would probably have it by now! I still haven't gotten my 10 'free' copies.

  20. Don't say 'well done' 'til you read the book! Could be the biggest pile of tripe in the history of publishing.

Yeah I guess the original had problems with hydrogen embrittlement of the chrome plated chassis that caused frequent cracks to develop. Now we know to cook the chrome parts after plating to prevent that.

Back in 1966 when I was in sixth grade I found a book in the school library. I think the title was how to build a hot rod or custom car , something like that and one story was about Ed modifying his 55 Chevy and the other was about the Mysterion and how he was forming the body and headlight assembly. The Mysterion has alway's been my favorite of all of Ed Roth's creations . And that book was just the thing to get a 11 year old kid started on the road to being a life long custom car builder. And since I turn 61 Saturday . It has been 50 years and that car still trills me!!! Very nice job! Larry

    Amazon is out.... DAMN!

  25. I finally got my 10 author's copies of the book yesterday! Actually I don't think Amazon is out of stock, they just haven't set up the link. Barnes and Nobel's site says 'available 9/29'. Takes time to set up the links I imagine. You can order from McFarland right now.

When I was in elementary school I found the same book in our library. They couldn't peel that book from my hands! I remember it pretty vividly to this day, drooling over the pages seeing Mysterion getting built! This was in the late 80's, I was just a pup.
