I bought these skirts off eBay, I have seen several identical sets all listed for 52 /54 ford all models. The last set set I say were described as flat overlay skirts. In my opinion the fit is terrible , Can anyone give me some insight on these skirts? They are NOS fox craft. Thanks In advance.
Yep.....they will need some help to fit right and work right. Just went thru this with friends 54 ford..after tweaking and "working" on them we go them to fit ok....of course now he doesn't run them
That huge gap in the front that doesn't follow the body lines is what really gets me. Did you do anything about that on your friends 54? Thanks
I don't think those are the right skirts, I had a set for my '53 and they had an indent in the front that followed the fender blisters properly. Not to say you couldn't reshape these to make them work but they aren't made to fit that car. I have a couple sets that look near identical to yours and they were a generic aftermarket overlay skirt, made to fit lots of different cars as long as they had relatively flat quarters and didn't have stone guards. That's what is on my '55 Packard, and I did have to bend them up a bit to make them fit but they work.
as squablow said not for 52-54 ford.typical ebay listing so and so said they fit on his or her witchamacallit so must be gospel.they are not even close to being right.
Yep, not the right skirts. The ones you want will be easy to spot...they have the crease in the front that matches the body. Here's a pair of foxcrafts I just painted on my 53
...and use flat exhaust tips that look like they go with the skirts and lower rear!!! (Like Chris's above)
Thanks for all your replies! I just thought maybe I was missing something as so many different people were selling these skirts for my application. It totally makes sense that these are a universal style skirt. I guess I will hang them on the wall for now and wait for a decent deal on the skirts I need. Hopefully my mistake will save someone else some cash. I love that Sunliner by the way!
I should have let you know for future reference on parts questions for your car.check out Jeffs 54-59 ford social group on the HAMB also ford barn and another is flatheads forever.I realize yours is a 53 but a few things from 54 will work
Thanks, I will check those out. I am always looking for ideas and , I have plans to drop the rear another inch or 2 this winter and put dual exhaust on it , I have a Douglass left side manifold on it way from eBay as we speak. I am also going to run spider caps in the front if I cant find some decent 16" hubcaps. Right now I am running Aerostar springs in the front with 2 inch blocks in the rear thanks to reading posts on here. Thanks again.
Not the Foxcrafts for your vehicle. Foxcrafts are "overlay", but those which you have there are for a ? ? ?
"I am also going to run spider caps in the front if I cant find some decent 16" hubcaps." Be careful, the factory wheels for the 1952 Ford are 15".......with 6.70 x 15 tire.
My buddy thought that 16" wheels were not factory equipment for the car also, but I just purchased another 1952 Mainline one owner car at a farm auction a couple weeks ago and that one had 16" wheels also they both came with the small ford hubcaps but I took them off my driver. I wish they were 15" It would make life much easier to find some decent hubcaps . I did install 3" blocks in the rear today in place of the 2" . I must say, much better stance! Thanks
Ford info book for 1952 shows 15" wheels as factory equipment. Don't know, though, the last year for Ford with standard 16" wheels. I stand corrected, have found another source stating the '52 has 6 x 16 wheels.
Thanks for the info! Thats exactly what both cars have on them is the 6x16 wheels, I had to work the day of the farm auction and had a buddy go look and bid for me on the second mainline , It was in very rough shape as far as rust , but one of the first questions I asked him on the phone was what size were the wheels . If it would have had 15" wheels I would have been willing to bid higher. Luckily I think we were only bidding against scrappers and I got the car for a song.
The 16s might have been an option for people who lived in the country and drove on rough and rutted roads...... Otherwise, I would think 15s were used starting in 1949 probably. On the old Plymouths, they switched from 16 to 15 in mid 1947 as I recall.
Both cars came from South West Minnesota , We took 4 1/2 miles of gravel to get to farm auction car , So that would make sense to get the most clearance for the snow and the rough roads. My 48 Desoto had 15" wheels so that would probably be correct also.
