  6. At this point I've given up on the wrecker. In 1999 I had to have it. Today if I wanted one bad enough I would just reproduce it based on all the pictures I have.

The 60 Chrysler is finally going under the knife.
I found a guy with 14 imperials in his yard. So
Last weekend we pulled the 413/727 from A 64 destined for the derby.

I have to rebuild the rear "frame rails" and trunk as they are long gone.

I remember watching an old movie where this rich old lady sent her driver to the scrap drive.
He was driving a '36 Packard limo. Dual sidemounts and exposed driver.
Good thing I was already home sick.
I totally realize the importance of the scrap drives and have extensively studied WWII.
Still, Its like watching W.C. Fields in "Poppy".
Wanna see some great old cars reduced to rubble? They're out hunting, "Road Hogs".
    Great fun really.

Wandering through the woods at my Brothers farm today and saw the 3 cars we found 40 plus years ago are still hanging in there. Actually saw a hinge idea on one of them that might work on a current build I am doing. DSC00143.JPG DSC00144.JPG DSC00145.JPG DSC00142.JPG

  16. 40 years ago most old stripped cars weren't worth anything. In 76 I bought a complete 57 retractible for $50. Got it running and sold for $225. A 63 fairlane 260 stick that ran for $75. a really nice 65 lemans with the bucket seats and auto console for $175. and a 62 GMC short bed for $225. I still have whats left of the GMC. In 1964 we put a 59 ford custom 500 2 door (with a really nice body) that my dad bought new in 59 in a ravine to stop erosion. It silted full to the top of the doors. around 2000 I ran over what was still above ground with a dozer and pushed a foot of dirt over it. there also is part of a 56 ford 4 door hardtop buried in the same location.

I bought 4 of these Studebakers that were sitting and rotting last week.
I picked up these 2 so far. The first picture is a 1962 4 speed car the other is a 1963 automatic.
I am going to list them in the classifieds. If they do not sell they will be parted out.

  18. I've heard all those stories from my father. He used to buy 57 Chevy's for five bucks. I wish I could've been around for that.

They were all pretty rough and already sinking into the ground 40 years ago bullet holes and all. My other Brother Ralph and I were the car guys in the family and took off anything we thought was good on them back then. Just a fun landmark in the woods that our kids and now our grandkids like to remember and talk about.

  20. All these were driven here years ago. They were dealer trade ins. Because they were just old cars and not worth putting on his lot at the time he just drove them out to his farmland and parked them.

  21. That's pretty cool. There were countless cars in the woods in my area until scrap went up a few years ago. Then they all disappeared.
My title guy is in his seventies. He told me back in the day when they were doing all the mine reclamation he took 8 cars over to the site and one by one the guys with the dozers pushed them all into the mineshafts and covered them up. Including a 40s Buick with dual carbs on a straight 8.
