68 and feeling every day of it. If you don't take care of yourself when you are younger you will feel like shit when you get older. Ask me how I know.

69 years old last July. I have yet to reach maturity as far as I can tell.

That is EXACTLY what came to my mind when I read this thread! Ryan has his eggs in more than one basket (forum), unlike NSRA.

  8. Wow...I thought I was older than everyone and was amazed and surprised that mid 60's and up is the norm.

    I'm 68 years old...

And to those coming up on a birthday...! image.jpeg

  9. The mid sixties to mid seventies "norm" is based on H.A.M.B. members, who are 62 or above, not the total membership age population.

    66 and retired.
Busier than I ever was and sometimes I think it would be easier back at work. Last year's summer was flat out to the point I was happy to see it snow so I could quit working. This summer was no better and I think I have moss growing in my boat. I used to live in my boat before I retired. Put 6 weeks in renovating my youngest son's house. First 3 weeks was renewing his basement apartment & he liked it so much that he moved in there. We went back for another 3 weeks to renew the upstairs to get a better rent. Did work on my oldest sons house. Built a deck for the mother in law, built a new deck on our house and spend 3 days a week with 2 friends building a Bearhawk airplane. The wife has our house upside down for paint as she was all fired up after doing the kids houses. Now in the midst of the chaos we bought another house from an estate that has really good bones but the interior will have to be pulled out of the 60's with a lot of sweat equity. Now scrambling to finish the work in our house to put it on the market.
Work was easier juggling 20 projects at a time, pushing crazy timelines and babysitting contractors.

We went to a local restaurant to celebrate my birthday and planned a cake with candles like your picture. Couldn't do it, according to the restaurant owner we need a special permit from the local fire Marshall for a fire that large plus a pumper and crew just in case the flames got out of hand. It kind of takes some of the fun out of German chocolate, but at least nobody had to wear welding gloves to remove the candles or for that matter bring an air compressor to blow out the flames.

I've been told the same thing, and my response was, "O.K. Thank you, thank you very much!"

deucemac, I think those sumbitches at that restaurant are operatin' under false pretenses. Hope to see you at TROG. One of the HAMBers is going to throw a BBQ at his place in Arroyo Grande for all us HAMBers. He is paintslinger805.

    Bob,

NSRA (National Street Rod Assn) had always limited it's events to 1948 and older vehicles. Several years ago (5 or 6 or so) they implemented a "rolling 30 year age limit" for participating vehicles. In 2016 for example, vehicles of year model 1986 and older were eligible.

This change caused a huge protest from many members who wanted events to remain pre-'49. The change was made to attract younger people to the NSRA, as it had evolved into a majority 'gray beard' membership. Having attended many NSRA events over a few decades, I can attest to that fact.

You can see where that will lead with the march of time and the inevitable reduction in participants.

65 last August. The old adage- if I would've known I was going to live this long I would've taken better care of myself , does have some truth to it. Used to be able to practically leap off the creeper, now I have to crawl up the side of the car.

  23. 67, pushing 68 in a couple months. Got to grow up in Los Angeles surrounded by hot rods in the 50's and 60's. Made it to my teenage years and (mentally) am still there. Currently working on two car projects and remodeling my house. Remember, you don't slow down because you get old, you get old because you slow down!
