I bet there are some in the world who don't know there's a right and wrong way to install a washer. I don't understand those people. .

So which was is the correct way to install a washer.....so it looks right, or so it doesn't dig into your freshly painted part?

  8. Yes

  9. Of course one has to have all the washers the same way up otherwise it would justlook so wrong. And I get shit from my family for washing the dishes before I put them into the dishwasher so, yeah, we better have those washers right. :D;);)

  10. Any progress on your T Marc? :D JW

  11. No but we have my Brother living here now with us and he is in the process of building a T. He has the body, pickup bed and grille shell on order from Koop de Glass, has purchased a 350 cu.in.,Th350 and 10 bolt diff plus other bits and pieces towards it. He is going to get Stevz Rodz to build the frame up to a roller stage but to be totally honest, I wonder if he has bitten off to much as he is not mechanically minded with limited tools and equipment and doesn't realize what is involved in building a rod.

All this talk of washers. :D
I considered putting a washer on my RPU but I wasn't sure how I would do the plumbing. :D
In the end I decided to just wash my jeans at home :D:D

Or you can do what I just got done doing. Read the first 25 or so pages of this thread. Puts me back on track, when I'm feeling lost.

I know Chip gave his okay to take this thread anyplace you feel right about but Fred has the right idea if you get lost reread the first 25 pages of this thread. Their is a lot of good info there weather you agree with it or not.
Again I don't care how great your quality build is if you don't listen to those visual pointers your car won't stand out from the others. It's all been said in the first 25 pages. Go ahead and build "what I want" to but don't be surprised if it has one or some of the above looks.

  20. Absolutely nothing on that vehicle I would want to use on my Roadster. The problem I have with my brother purchasing bits and pieces for his T is that he wouldn't listen to anything I would try to say to him about a plan and a picture of what he wants the end result to look like as we don't get on at all. Too many years have passed under the bridge at separate ends of the country and we are like total strangers who happen to have the same parents.
Now back to defining what a T Roadster should be like yet still be different from the rest.

  21. So all we do now is re read the 1st 25 pages, that may be all the written info we need but this tread needs more than that and apart from Freds great and interesting build there is zip going on here:(. We all know whats ugly by now and have our own takes on the levels of said ugliness......correct? JW

A little late night painting. I like working late at night. Put on some classic rock and went to work. I decided to prime the rear end first. I figured it would give me a chance to see how the paint was going to lay out before I do the frame. There are a few streaks, but a little 1,000 wet sanding will smooth them out. I'll let it dry until Saturday and then apply the color coat. In these pics, you can see how the filler looks. I'm very pleased with the results.

The plumbing is easy, lots of hot water from the radiator. It's the really long extention cord that's tricky.

I applied the first of two color coats this afternoon. It flowed on different than the primer, as it's slightly thicker. I was surprised at how the brush strokes smoothed out. It came out great. However, despite paying close attention, I had a few runs, which I'll sand out before I apply the final coat tomorrow.

Glad you chose black Fred. You don't want the diff. or frame to jump out at you.

I'll be at TRAG in Pismo this weekend. I'll be in the yellow rain suit. Hope to see you.

  27. I agree with Gary, Fred! Black is a very good choice! I get why they used red on the exposed portions of my frame (it matches the flames that start on the firewall), but I've seriously considered going back with black. Several other people I've asked think I should leave it red, but with the block and heads, trans, frame, and radiator (I side the chrome shell) all red, it's just a LOT of red to me! I definitely plan on painting the radiator black this time, jury is still out on the frame. The frame and rear end are black underneath the car, but nobody can see much of them anyway, and the black just kind of helps it disappear.

  28. Scary welds aside, why bother to brush the paint on when Harbor Freight has a perfectly good HVLP gun for $10!?!?!?! I am being critical because of your time here Fred, I thought you would have picked some things up.

I'm using a brush because I'm painting my stuff in my land lords shop. If I sprayed it, I'd have to cover all the cars he has in his shop, plus his tools, etc. Or, I guess I could buy some tarps or plastic and build some sort of booth, but why should I, when using a brush will yield the same results?

Now, if I had my own area to paint in, I'd probably still brush it. Why spend the extra money for tarps and such, when by brushing it, I have a little bit better control and all I'm out is the cost of paint and some brushes.

    Okay?:D
