had a car catch fire, took Hagerty 3 months to settle claim, always a runaround or excuse. but I used them on a replacement car, talked to Grundy at GoodGuys Des Moines & they offered same coverage at half the price. switched & had no problems with Grundy at all. as I finished more on the car I wanted to increase the agreed value, just had to e-mail pics of what I had done. it went very smooth. I'm paying around $275 (I think) for agreed value of $40K on a 40 Ford sedan

I had Condon-Skelly for several years. Never had a claim, however, my premiums kept going higher and higher. I never shopped them, but after about 10 years, Grundy was about $300.00 per year less. Needless to say, I now have Grundy coverage.

  5. Switched from Hagerty to Grundy about 10 years ago. 4 vehicles, very satisfied.

Sent from my SM-G900V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

  6. I would have to agree with flatheadpete. Living in michigan and having the company here go a long ways toward making things easier.

I have had Hagerty for 12-15 years had 2 claims, Broken windshiels in the '40One call and the check was sent .with a day or 2 plenty generous, 2nd claim for an electical fire that had an inspector out within a week or less and had an agreed upon check within 7-10 days total time. I was told if you run into more damage or need the inspector out again just call. I feel they were very fair and will continue to use them in the future.

Had Grundy for 8 years now on 4 different vehicles, 2 that I still own. Never filed anything but towing claims on my 86 Vette, they have paid all 4 of them without any problems.

Triple A for me, price is about the same as what was mentioned above, I have my wifes car covered with them, so we get the multi vehicle discount, plus Auto Club****istance. Easy sign up too, just took it in and they shot some pics of it, completed the app and wrote a check and bam, we were done. They handle the DMV paper for me too.

I've had Hagerty for almost 20 years. No mileage limits. However, every year I get paperwork that is specific to Colorado, so it maybe that mileage limits are based on the resident state.

  12. I compared my Hagerty coverage and price with Grundy yesterday.
Grundy was $40.00 / year less, but Grundy quoted $50.00 deductibles, where Hagerty showed zero deductibles.

I use American Modern Home. A highly rated company with good rates, guaranteed value and few limitations. I was led to them by my daily driver Nationwide Agent and it allows me to stack my liability coverages so that instead of PA's 300/100,000 coverage, I get 1.2million/400,000 on each of my 4 cars-two with Nationwide and two with AMH.

Does anyone reduce coverage in the winter when you don't drive the car ?

  15. I have not done this, but I would think you could back down on coverages, while the car is resting, over the stored months.

You don't need liability when your not driving but not sure your insurance company would be too happy to reduce your premiums over the winter.

I've had Grundy for years now. One difference I found was that Hagerty wouldn't insure our 2002 Trans Am as a "collector car", and Grundy would (as long as we had several other collector cars insured too). This single difference was significant in what the total dollar cost was on our collector cars as a group.

I needed to have one of our cars towed once, and Grundy was quick to reimburse me. I think I got the check two days after faxing the tow bill to them! While tow coverage is pretty common anymore, it's easy to forget you have it! I think Grundy covers the first $250.

    I'm quite happy with Grundy.

When I first got my car on the road last year, I compared Grundy and Hagerty. Grundy was close to 200. cheaper for basically the same coverage. Obviously chose Grundy. Then I had my accident in March where I stupidly started my car when I wasn't in it, while working on a starting problem....it was in gear...you've all heard similar stories before. Anyway, there was about 10k damage to the car plus some building damage where the car sideswiped the overhead door doorjam. Grundy sent out appraisers from New Mexico, and everything was taken care of without issue in a short amount of time.
Then last month I got a notice from Grundy saying they would not renew when the policy coverage ended. I frankly was not surprised, just disappointed because I really liked grundy. What I just found out was according to the non-renewal letter they sent, I had a 5200% loss factor rate. If my math is correct, and they base that on loss-to-premium, they paid over 13K to have a corrugated sheetmetal panel, and posibly a door tract replaced!!
I was worried I would not be able to get insurance from anybody, at least at an affordable rate, but Haggerty came thru even knowing about the accident and a speeding ticket I got 2 years ago (10mph over on a highway), and I now have my coverage with Haggerty. The only issue I had was they did want to limit the annual mileage to 5k. I talked to a haggerty agent at the goodguys show last week and she told me that was the number 1 complaint her clients had with Haggerty, but if I called them, they might up the mileage limit. I did, but 7500 I was told was their absolute max, and that added another 60. per year.
My thoughts on the miles...if I lived in Socal or Florida, I could probably get by on the 5k miles, but I want to do some of the big shows, and I live in Amarillo, tx. That means the bigger shows are in D/FW (700 round trip), Colorado (7-900 round trip), OKC (600 round trip). Doesn't take long to rack up 5k miles in show season if you live in an area like mine.

never heard any mileage restrictions from Hagerty. I have collected from them 3 times for damage and was paid within about one week. They would like to know of any long trips but that's about it.

Could that possibly be a difference between buying Hagerty ins through a local agent vs. directly from Hagerty? I go directly through Hagerty and they said unequivocally "no mileage restrictions ", or perhaps state by state?

All insurance companies are scum. The sooner you realize how adversarial the nature of the relationship between you and them is, the better. You have to CYA at every step of the process. Read your policy and don't rely on*********ters on internet forums for your understanding of what is covered and what isn't. Don't ever trust what some sales rep tells you at a car show. If it's not in your declarations page, it doesn't exist.
