I am in no way affiliated with TROG or Popular mechanics. Its mainly the title that got me.... http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/a23437/race-of-gentlemen/
Obviously a certain Collin Woodard doesn't know the difference in a traditional hot rod and a rat turd. HRP
I think you're thinking of Bob Woodward of Deep Throat fame....no, not the porn, the Nixon Deep Throat.
Once upon a time.when a reporter was worth his byline would do a little research before writing a article. It is apparent he never talked to any of the promoters or participants. HRP
hmmmm- interview good - title distorts what TROG is about. even though it was well explained in the video - guess author did not watch video
That link is requiring an email address. I'm sick of unwanted emails from sites like this. Screw it, I aint giving them my address so I can read their story.
I sometimes think that the general public thinks that the RR term is a new updated cool term for hot rod.
Me and you both. HRP It seems to the great unwashed public that has not been Baptized in the traditional hot rod & custom world the chic word is rat rod. HRP
Obviously this dufus reporter is lazy and thinks an easy way to write a story is watch a video ,, and not really pay attention to it. If he had made an effort to get out of his house or out of bed and to attend the TROG and talk to the organisers or participants I am sure the story would have been worth a read. As it stands it's purely Sunday morning shallow trash, and Sunday morning readers believe it as gospel trash .
Look a little closer at the small print under the request for your email address, and click on the part that says "I don't have the need for speed" and you will be able to see it just fine. It looks like this originally came from "Road & Track" anyway so cut the guy some slack, we can handle the "Rat Rod" label if someone shows up that isn't knowledgeable in the Gospel of Traditional Hot Rods. Then we can "edgicate" them in the purity and beauty of the history of Hot Rods. If you read the article closely you'll see he painted a very positive picture of a fun event. None of us started out in this hobby knowing everything and some of us that have been around awhile it have the sins of billet and odd paint in our past. Like they say "there is no such thing as bad publicity" and the best part of this hobby is sharing it with others, and that gave us the rich history we are celebrating here. Thank Ryan for starting the HAMB so we can continue to spread it!
I checked out Collin Woodard and he is a real car guy and a prolific writer. Check him out here. http://www.roadandtrack.com/author/14141/collin-woodard/ Although he is primarily interested in the Road & Track view of things he covers everything and writes some interesting stuff like this that will make your blood boil. And this affects all of us. Neighbors Sue Man for Working on Cars in His Garage And somehow, more than $30,000 later, the issue still isn't settled. http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cul...rs-sue-man-for-working-on-cars-in-his-garage/ An open mind leaves a chance for someone to drop a worthwhile thought in it. Mark Twain
Lazy journalism and a public with an almost nonexistent attention span. This was akin to writing a book report in high school based of the movie you watched the night before. Add the fact it was in a mechanical publication and/or automotive magazine (Pop Mech and R&T) and the cut and paste attempt at an article is just plain embarrassing. "I sometimes think that the general public thinks that the RR term is a new updated cool term for hot rod." It's what they know from media and word of mouth. Harmless, but I try not to be offended. I will sometimes respond, well there isn't really anything ratty about it, it's just a old hot rod.
Road And Track is a huge publication that should get the difference between the horrid RR term and a traditional hotrod. I can't believe this shit still happens in this time of the internet searching of google. If I was a reporter I'd sure as hell do a little bit of digging before I publish it. I wouldn't care if it wasn't linked to a fullon automotive magazine. yada yada
Tried of Rat Rod CRAP, LS CRAP, T5 CRAP, etc...........etc............TROG is just good ol' fashion racing.
