I posted an ad looking for a Edelbrock intake for a Y block about 10/10/2016. A bout 3 days later was contacted by someone from the HAMB if I was still looking for the manifold and left his email address if I was still looking. I contacted and he sent pic's of 3 intakes a 3 duece and 2 Edelbrock 2x4's. We agreed at $250.00 including shipping on the 2x4 intake. Everything was done via text or email. No phone conversation as he SAID he was hearing impaired. Payment was to be Money Gram as his PayPal acct. was dormant. I paid that day against my better judgement. Come Friday eve. sent me a text Fed Ex would not ship till Monday due to weather. Come Monday then Grandson was in hospital. I asked for a phone call from a family member ans he said he would have son call me soon 9never happened) Now there is no communication. He joined the HAMB one day prior to this and was off by one day after. His info. is Terrilyn Wierz 3612 E. Esther St. Orlando Fl.. 813 603 0720. oldterryw57@yahoo.com If this person makes good on this I will definitely post an apology but I don't think I'll hold my breath.

I don't do phone calls either. Some times my paypal goes inactive because I make mine inactive for my account safety due to being back doored through it and ripped off and having my account hijacked. But the money gram thing is a major red flag. Hope it works out for you.

I looked up that address on Google maps and it looks like this IMG_1476962758.429905.jpg
Satellite imaged looked like a house being gutted, dumpster, overgrown yard. This might not mean anything, but it might.

you fell for the oldest trick in the book......that guy could live anywhere......that really sucks - the first thing i check when someone contacts me to sell or buy is post count and the quality of those posts.....if either is suspect i ask if someone that is "verfiable" can vouch for them. we need to protect this place....

Orlando is 407, that 813 is Tampa area. Try calling it from another number you haven't contacted him with. Maybe he'll answer.

I have always had good luck with fellow HAMB's but there are a couple of things I do
First How many posts they have. Second there profile.
If a deal seems to good to be true It probably is.

  12. I cant do phone calls due to hearing problems. Here on the Hamb I communicate using the personal message. All transactions are by Postal Money order.

Moneygram (or Walmart cards or itunes cards) is always a scam.
Paypal account dormant, BS. Tell him to activate it. I have bought and sold things on the HAMB (and eBay, etc) and paypal was always used.
    Can't talk on phone, BS.
Price too good to be true, ALWAYS a scam. And this is the bait that gets you on the hook. It works often enough that these scammers, who always give false names and false addresses, continue to make lots of money. As an example, there is an Edelbrock 2x4 y-block intake on eBay right now for $1,100. Quite a difference.

I have to say, that I feel that if someone loses their money this way they deserve it.
You said that you sent the money against your better judgement. You did it to yourself.
I was looking for a couple of items and received similar e-mails.
My response was the delete button.
These scams are easy to spot.
A sad reality of the world we live in however someone once said that there is a sucker born every minute.

    Hi Joel,
I still have the bumper for sale in excellent shape and condition. Asking $150 shipped. I'll be shipping via UPS or FedEx whichever you prefer and shall accept payment via Money gram as my Paypal is currently dormant. What's your shipping address?
    Thanks,

Well, hopefully a few people reading this will also be reminded of all the scammer red flags to be aware of.
Every time someone takes the bait and falls for a scam, the thief's stay in business and live another day to craft their trade instead of having to work a 'real job'. Plus it's another easy score from us "old car guys", so buckle down for more of this within our hobby.
It's bad enough for car enthusiasts to know that our old cars are easy pickins for car thieves. Now it seems that word has gotten out that we're suckers for jumping at vintage cars, parts and speed parts being peddled far below market rates, as we seem to be seeing more of this sort of thing in our circle.

I had the same thing happen with this guy, I posted looking for a 36 ford trunk lid , he answered right away saying he had one in excellent condition for 320 shipped, I asked for some pictures and he sent a photo of a 36 coupe that he said he was parting out, car looked way to good to part out, I found the same photo after a Google search for 36 Fords, just for the heck of it I asked for a photo of the inside of the trunk, he told me he was having trouble uploading photos, Red Flag this guy

I checked the weather that eve. Weather was clear. Hurricane was earlier in the week. I guess we live and learn. I hope we can keep this post alive to help others.I tried to do a little research on the HAMB but couldn't find a beware list. I thought that on the old site there was a section for the undesirable people to do business with.

there is no such thing as a dormant paypal account.

if you are buying or selling something the best payment is a postal money order. as a seller you cash it at the post office when you ship, they will tell you right there if it is a good one or not. as a buyer if they rip you off on a postal money order, the post office gets involved. ripping people off via the post office is not tolerated.

Hey Guys....Update....This afternoon my G.F. called the fraud line for Money Gram and the piece of work hadn't picked up the money yet from WalMart yet. It looks like he didn't have the proper credentials to receive the money. My girlfriend just got home with all my money including the $9.95 fee. I really hope this posting helps the rest of you car guys. I learned my lesson for sure....

If it was me I would contact the Florida attorney general's office and give them all the details of your transaction. See what they have to say about it. They are located in the states capitol. Also you could contact the Florida state police and see what they say. Doesn't cost anything but your time.
