Here's another Hawk-based Studemino, with a better-looking cab treatment than the others. There are a few more photos on the bottom of the page here.

Edit: It's funny how often Google searches triggered by the HAMB bring me right back to the HAMB in the search results. It seems this car belongs to Dick Steinkamp, and he brought us along on the restoration right here on the HAMB.

I think they are cut into the lower bumper guards.

Sorry Cowboy, can't agree with you on this one...I think the "truck" style rear looks better...BUT, I do like your Stude...However, I'm curious...the license plate on the Stude sez Wyoming, but your avatar sez Elizabeth, ColoRODo...!!!

  21. I just noticed this picture in the previous Rodder's Journal in the article about Vancouver hot rodding. Going by the lack of hood and placement of the air cleaners, I'd venture it's the same car. Yup, Caddy V12.

  22. A newspaper submission from 2014:

    1949 chopped Ford sedan
Of all my beautiful cars, my favourite was my chopped 1949 Ford sedan. It was built by Jack Williams of Vancouver in the early ’50s.

In 1956, I was driving down Kingsway in my 1950 Mercury convertible and I saw my dream car sitting on a lot with a for-sale sign in the windshield. I fell in love at first sight and traded in my beautiful Merc with a brand-new top.

The ’49 had a V-12 Cadillac engine in it with twin carbs. The valve covers and valley covers were chrome and there was plenty more all around the engine.

The headlights were frenched, plus taillights. It had a ’51 meteor grill, ’53 Buick side chrome and ’53 Kaiser bumperettes. It was chopped six inches, the doors were electric with no door handles. It also had dual Appleton spotlights. It was featured in Hot Rod, Car Craft and many other magazines.

I still have a few of the trophies that it won in many car shows. In the shows that I had it in, I called it “Fredette’s Fordette.”

I have done many stupid things in my 80-plus years, but selling that car has to be my dumbest thing ever. It is still in Victoria, and in my opinion it’s the most beautiful custom ’49 ever built.

Very observant, neighbor! I stopped and took that photo at the state line during my move from Laramie to Elizabeth, on the day I drove the Studebaker south. It has Colorado plates now. Don't be surprised if you see that old Champion Coupe in Aurora. I routinely drive it to visit clients in a retirement community at Parker Road and 225, and it has also been to the Friday evening car shows at the Sonic Drive in at Hampden and Tower Road a number of times.
