Well, still not much to report. Good thing Bob has been working though, because between my company and elk hunting I've gotten exactly NOTHING done.

Wait, not totally true. I did manage to get the new Excelsior tires mounted on the '40 Ford wheels after Bob painted them but I don't have pictures because they're in the back of my Duramax which has been in the shop for 15 days now.... [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35]

Ever tried to hunt large game without a truck?

Bob, however, has been faithfully plucking away.

A heavily modified (underneath) '32 radiator cap (until Victoria picks out a suitable motometer that works with the rest of the car).

Radiator support rods have been mounted. The firewall brackets were nerve-wracking to say the least!

Bob built a killer little bracket that incorporates the support rods, radiator cap and radiator support all in one.

HEI (yep, sorry) and coil mounted.

And beleive it or not, there's a stupid amount of work in these mirrors. There was a certain style I was looking for, but functionality had to be considered too as they double as windshield stops. Of course the windshield is threaded and already painted... and I just HAD to make shit difficult. LOL.

Sorry fellas, elk hunt ends next week then I'll be back in action.

Oh, and I did something stupid. I bought a BBC powered jet boat because I OBVIOUSLY don't have enough going on in my life...

Somebody needs to pull my reins. [emoji51]

  7. No one needs to pull you in but you do need that shop built at your place. I really like the radiator cap and I do hope you get a OE distributor clamp to hold it tight not like the item on the other roadster. that boat looks the berries, what is the bigness of the BB? All looking very cool, oh and say high to Bob for me....he is way cool. Carry on Sir.:cool::D:D JW

  8. Interesting boat, engine cover kinda looks like am old Glastron. Not gonna go further than that on here, or I'll probably get yelled at! ;-D When you said appropriate motor meter, my mind immediately flash to one in raw brass / bronze on that beautiful maroon paint.

You're not kidding, my garage is jam packed and I have too much outside. The black roadster is re-tuned and running great! The BBC is a mild 454.

It reminded me of the old Glasstrons too. I think that's a big part of what drew me in, you just don't see an SK style boat with a fiberglass engine cover, and it's even rare in the day cruiser sized boats.

Yeah, I think a bronze motometer would be perfect too, but it needs to be small-ish so as not to distract from the rest of the car. Therein lies the problem, most are really damn tall.

Finally made a quick run up the hill. Of course, Bob has been progressing while I've been working and playing. Mostly working.

Bob has the side view mirrors figured out completely. I would have taken photos of the wooden bucks he made to redrill the arms but my battery died.

Carburetor and throttle linkage is all done, mostly hand made.

Transmission tunnel is ready to be made out of fiberglass. Yes, fiberglass.

Lots of other small details wrapped up too.

I wish the detail and complexity of this piece could be seen better. All those small things that nobody will ever notice is -in my mind- what makes a good hot rod a GREAT hot rod. Multifunction radiator cap holder and radiator support rod bracket
    [IMG]

And a few of the car with the new wheels and tires. Because I can. [emoji12]

Wow Eric, I really like the look of those new wheels and tires. The Excelsiors are really nice looking.
I know you probably posted it but I can't find it.... so if you don't mind me asking....what are the wheel sizes and tire sizes ?

I'm tempted to sell the 2 sets of wheels and tires I have now for my RPU , the 15" steel smoothies and the full set of new in the box American racing salt flats I have and buy a set of those
    Tempting :D

Hell yeah! Can't wait for that Mustang to be tearing up the highways there! Tell Mandy we said howdy.

I bought 16x4-1/2" and 16x6" Wheel Vintiques from Summit Racing. Click on the sizes for a direct link. Nice pieces, but I absolutely hate the dual pattern. Because of this the car will have to have hubcaps at all times. I prefer the ability to run with or without caps and really LOVE the center of the original '40 wheels for some reason. Oh well, they'll do.

The front tires are Excelsior 500-16 and the rears are Excelsior 750R16 . Hope that helps. I had my local big truck tire shop mount them and put in balancing beads rather than weights. Keeping my fingers crossed that it'll work well as I've heard several others running this combo successfully.

One thing that I kept going back and forth on was whether to go with a 750 or a 700 rear. The rear body line kind of "frames" the 700 nicely, but I ultimately decided the taller tire would just look better and only a few anal hot rodders like me would notice such a silly detail that may (or may not) make an otherwise eyeball difference. I suppose if it were THAT important I could have the rear body line reformed to frame the tire. SCREW THAT, I'M READY TO DRIVE NOT RE-ENGINEER!

They look really good Eric, did you mount them without tubes ?
There are several guys on here who have been running them without tubes successfully.
I don't like the idea of tubes.

  18. Oh no, at-least once the carpet is done, nobody will know and ,heck, it is a small thing of practical beauty and for it's job, a darn sight easier then trying to make something out of sheet panel. We won't tell though.;)

Been a while since I checked in Eric. You are moving along nicely, I must say. I put another one together and maybe do Trog next year. Just love 27's. Looking forward to seeing yours completed. Mark.

Post a pic of the Mustang, Jeremy!

So I haven't yet returned, but Bob sent me pictures today. It's on its own wheels.

Haven't seen much of this side lately.

  23. Heck the Stang looks like a lovely stock original car straight as a die Jeremy. Like the colour too, a change from the usual reds etc., is that a stock Ford colour for them ?
The little roadster is looking darn fine too and seeing it on it's feet really brings it closer to the finishing line.

Ran some parts up and did a little work tonight. We decided to abandon the "door" I made for the fuse panel. Going to relocate it to another spot in the trunk because... well, difficulties.

I began assembling the dash so I could wire it. Key switch, headlight switch, heater switch and fan override installed. Stereo and bracketry installed.

I decided to diagram the switches on the back of the dash too, for future reference and just in case.

    And began wiring...

Most guys hate wiring but I really enjoy this part of the build.

Great idea having a wiring diagram right next to the wires.

Everyone say a prayer for our buddy 26 T Roadster Pickup. He cut his hand REAL bad yesterday and was in surgery. Wife says it doesn't look like any tendon or nerve damage but there was damage to the thumb bone. Hope you're back wrenchin' and drummin' quick, brother!

Ouch, done Eric, prayers sent and healing will start.
Those incidents suck but can happen to anyone of us in this hobby.
We all need to be careful.
