History 2 doors vs 4 doors

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bobg1951chevy, Oct 21, 2016.

  1. I really think the Hudson nailed some perfect proportioning on their sedans. I actually prefer the roof line on the sedans to that of the coupes (please don't burn me at the stake).

I would TOTALLY do a Hudson 4-door and say it's cool. You put a visor on those cars and they automatically look like you did a radical chop to me. I think they're great Mild Custom sled candidates personally.

  3. Are you sure? So no car excites you more than another? All cars are cool? You're really not able to discern an aesthetically pleasing design from one that is not so pleasing to the eye? I don't think you're being truthful, my friend. :)

  4. I have a 35 and 37 Willys 4 door sedans, no 2 door option. JW

  5. My mordor story was not because it was "kool" but more as a stepping stone. I already had my '40 deluxe coupe hot rod, my '40 Ford 1/2 ton stake truck, and I had a very rusty '54 F100 that I probably wanted too much money for. I had the opportunity to trade the '54 for a '40 Deluxe MorDor sedan that had been built as a hot rod back in the 70's, with a 327, th400, and a 3.55 55-64 chevy rearend.

With a few months time, and about $2500, I gave it a new stance, rewired it, drove it over 1000 miles, and sold it to a guy wanting it more than I did, and made a few grand in the process.

During the couple months of driving the sedan, I was amazed at how many "common folk" thought it was cool. I looked at it as a 4 door "beater" to move on to another owner.

  6. I will say, as far as "convenience" was concerned, having a 4 door was handy for runs to the grocery store, sticking a cooler in and out of the back seat, hauling more than 2 people around, and emergency roadside bladder drains (opening the front and rear doors to create a privacy stall).

If I had the opportunity, I'd do it again, since it wasn't my only '40 in the fleet. It was a fun experience.

Lol! Now there are those trying to inform others what is aesthetically pleasing to others' eyes!? I think Nash cars are cool, as are Crosleys and Ford Ts and As and Simcas and Chevys and Gremlins.....yeah Saxman...I'm about as honest as they come where this is concerned, TYVM! :)

  11. I agree, when I was growing up No One would drive a More door on purpose. You certainly would never buy one and driving Grandma's was not much better than walking or hitching. If we wanted a crew cab, we bought a truck

yes.....dual carbs and split exhaust......I've watched guys walk a line of cars with sbc in them but when they get to mine they almost always stop to check it out. Its COOL being different.

  15. That's what I enjoy about mine I (see my avatar)

  16. I mean, yes, we have to account for taste, or even lack of it. But to state that you're a fan of all cars tells me you either can't discern the difference or you're not telling the truth. But, who knows, maybe I'm missing something.

  17. Wait, I take that back. If you're telling the truth then that is actually a huge advantage for you. If you could truly be just as happy with a AMC Gremlin as a '32 Roadster, then you have saved yourself a shitload of money. Good for you!

  18. If that thing was piced cheap I'd buy it and have fun too. Hell yeah I'd drive the wheels off if it. BUT ,,, If it came with a price that reflected rust free ++$ and original paint ++$ and survivor ++$ and "classic" ++$ it prolly wasn't cheap.

  22. ^^^^^^3-2-1...

Threads are always the funnest as they unravel towards the end. It's like when things get really fun for my kids, things start flying around, stuff starts breaking, laughter, giggles then...a moderator sends us to our rooms without dinner

  23. Also, I'll take #2 or #3 any day, when I look at #1, all I see is: breaking my back for 10 years to supply endless luxuries, doing all the housework and child rearing myself, then her divorcing me for some rich guy, only seeing my kids on the weekends, losing half of everything I own, having to sell all my bikes and cars, then rooming with a toothless chain smoking roofer, working two jobs so I can also afford child support and alimony. NO THANK YOU SIR!

Hey is that a '32 ford over there?
( just needed to throw that in so I'm not OT)

  24. Use my two door cars when I'm by myself and four door wagons with friends. First you actually have to have friends for plan "B" to work. Kalamazoo 2001 I had 11 people in my wagon going from the fair grounds to the Duck Inn, kind of a sight to be seen.

  25. Back ON this topic, I actually have a buddy who's got an itch to build a hot rod but he seems to want it to be as much function as it is form. He's also leaning towards an OD build style and low budget so I told him that he should look into 4-doors and leave the traditional rodders to fight over getting the two door bodies ;)

I also told him that a SBC was the way to go for what he wanted out of the car... I MAY have been thinking about hauling "that old flathead" away since he "won't have any use" for it....

  26. I would like to say something along the lines of more practical with a family. Now this is in no way a suggestion that anyone should ever live as I have, most of you couldn't stand that much fun anyway.

The first car that actually remember was a Plymouth business coupe. I have no idea how old I was, but it was before the Ol' Man built the roadster. The Ol' Man cut the package shelf out and shoved some sort of a seat in the back so that me and my big sister had someplace to sit. I still remember my sis and I scrambling over the seat to get in the back, she had to help me because I was still wearing braces on my legs and we didn't mind, we were little kids.

After that we owned a roadster and a *bike. We were a family of 4 and if we were all going someplace Mom sat in the passenger seat, my Sis sat in the middle and I sat on her lap. I think that my sis may have been inconvenienced a little bit because she said that I had a boney butt.

Granted that was around 50 or 60 years ago and we didn't have things like safety seats and the like. But convenience was never a problem that I recall.

*we actually always owned a bike.

I wanted a "lead sled" someone had started and couldn't finish. looked for one or a stock 2 door for five years, just then Alan Jackson sang that"Mercury Blues" song and the price tripled on any merc. I found a 4 door at the right price and drove it home. Stock as a clock. Motor crapped out and I started modifying it but it's mine and I'm paying for it and I like it. Nuff said.

  28. Hey, if you're not man enough to keep her satisfied and happy, well maybe other options are better (LOL, just messing with ya)

Great analogy comparing 4 doors to fat chicks. I've never wanted a 4 door or a fat chick. I know fat chicks need love too but not from me. Rolling them in flour is too much work.
