Junior Thompson’s long tow rewarded the SoCal gasser star with dual success in the B/Gas class (shown) and a brand-new eliminator category, only NHRA’s second. Trophy winners in the top three Gas Coupe/Sedan trophy classes squared off to determine a Little Eliminator. A supercharged Chevy pushed Junior’s ’41 Studebaker to low-13s at 104-plus.

  19. The Oriental Theater, Portland. One of several magnificent, grand old theaters torn down to make room for crappy ugly modern buildings.

  22. The Fox Theater, also torn down .
These theaters dated back to vaudeville, all the greats played here, including the Marx Brothers.
This one was razed to build a Nordstroms.

  25. More old Portland. The Lotus, seen on the right, was just demolished. The building shown center went from a fruit market, to the plumbing supply shown, to a used tool store to a porno (70's) , then ? It's long gone/ I bought an electric drill at the tool store for ONE DOLLAR, still have it, still works!
