Im new to the HAMB & just picked up this dragster. It was never finished or raced. Im thinking its a TE-448 but has a few differences on the front of the ch***is. Planning on building it and making it period correct.

    Hi Bashford

Looks to be in great shape, what kind of engine are you going to use ?

Those early cars ran with just about everything for power

Congrats - good challenge to send to the big photo shop thread here to set it up the way you are thinking of building it

Well, I THINK it's a TE-448, but everything from the firewall forward has been modified. The whole idea behind the 448 was that the rails were parallel to fit the then current Potvin front mount supercharger set up.this on has been pinched, and a T-bucket front end hung.

Im not sure on the TE-448's but the late K-88's were pinched just like your ch***is.

Where I would have to disagree with you there is that this ch***is uses the lighter lower rails like the TE-448. The TE440 used a 3" lower rail, and was pinched radically up front, but also a little in the rear. This ch***is uses a 2", or possibly 2 1/2" lower rail like the later TE-448 and K88, and sees to be straight through the cage.

The early Hemi would be just right for your period perfect dragster, then later if you wanted you could put a ' 6 ' on it since I was there that does bring back good memories ' Priceless '

back in the day alot of guys would buy or copy the roll cage area from scotty fenn aka ch***is research, and build there own rails. this was done on the greeks 1960 car, and many of ivos creations. they were easy to copy and alot were built as a copy. i built mine to fit my specs. you know, bigger ***, so spread the rails out a bit!

it looks original around the cage, but from firewall forward looks a little different, but still a nice find.

    Hello,

Here is a link to an old Ch***is Research thread from 2006 and updated in 2017 by wsdad. It is a great look at the actual catalog from way back in the early days.

Most of the top racers out West had Ch***is Research race cars at the compe***ions we saw from 58-60.

The race cars were set up by quite a few top builders and got lots of ink in the local Drag News Paper.
