howdy all, I'm building an AV8 following the Tardell book. I'm looking for the correct size upper rear shock mount. The book says to weld a 7/16" id tube tapped for a 7/16" thread through the rear frame crossmember. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Hi Eric! It's been a few years since I did mine (as per the Bishop/Tardel book). I just went down and put a vernier on the outside of the tube I used and it came out at 1". To my now senior brain, this seems a little thick to be threaded for 7/16" NF but I may have used thicker wall tubing.......or not. Sorry I can't be more precise! Hope this helps. Regards, Dave.

Eric, The book is great and the guys who put it all together are too. Watch the measurements though. What I did was pretty cheap and easy at the time: I bought mine already threaded, drilled out the cross member and welded them in. Did this a long while back and I think I bought them from a place called "Rocky Mountain Speed Shop" or something like that. I believe they were in Colorado. That was about 10 yrs ago. I just measured and they are 3/4 inch OD.
    Hope this helps
