I've been looking around for 1940 Ford style 16's for my 30 roadster. Preferably 16x4or5. The ones I see are mostly Wheel Vintiques multi lug . Anybody make an original style? I see Stockton wheel has some but I read the reviews here. . . . . I have been looking for original Ford rims as well but haven't found any worthwhile or for a decent price.
Hi I don't know what your bolt pattern is. But I have two ford 16 by 4 with 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern. In 1949/50 ford came with 15 by 5 with 5 on 4.5 But you could order the 16 by 4 with 5 on 4.5 These are different from 48's . 48's had clips to hold the center hub cap on . 49 and on had three little ***'s to hold the cap on. I would like $150.oo for both rims plus shipping Thanks Mark
Out side of the wheels I wrote about ( which was standard hot rod fare of that time period to get that skinny 4in wide wheel) You may have to go with after market I'm not aware of a 16 in. wheel after 1951. And I think 1948 and below are 16 in with a 5in bolt pattern . Mid to late 60s early 70s had the 5.5 bolt but were only 15in wheels good luck
I believe 41 or 42 to 48 were all 16x4 1/2 and 5x5 1/2. Pretty sure I have a few sets, but I'm in Bakersfield. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I thought that Ford was 1940 - 16 x 4". 5&1/2" stud pattern 1941 - 1948 16 x 4&1/2". 5&1/2" stud pattern I think that there was a 3&1/2" wide rim also, but extremely rare. I have the 4" wide 1940 on my car
I believe Mercury used 16 x 5, 5 x 5-1/2 bolt pattern but I don't know what years. I have a pair on the back of my 29 truck with 7.50 x 16 tires. Same style as '40 ford wheels.
Ford made millions and millions. And they have got to be available everywhere around the world cheaper than new pseudo-Fords. Maybe if you told us where you live, somebody would offer some up close-by. I have a couple dozen laying out behind my barn. Come by and we'll sort through them and find you a set.
To set the record straight: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/ford-steel-wheel-tech.115542/ Also to find a 16x5 inner bump 5 on 5.5 is going to be expensive, the 3.5 and 5 wide ones are the hardest and most pricey to find in original. Look for the cheaper 4 or 4.5 wide....they're still out there.
I agree with Clem and in addition believe the 3 1/2 wide inch rims were on the 60hp cars. The 16 inch by 5 inch wide rims were on the early '50s F1 pickups. All had the 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern and the look of the 1940 wheels.
