  2. We started positioning the motor in Mike's '33; but had to lay waste to the X-member in the process. Rolled my coupe out and turned it around using some borrowed Rambler wheels on the back; really need to get the 8.20 'stones mounted.

We did the same, took a nice Sunday drive, regrettably with the daily late model.
Wife snapped a few shots with her phone cam, sorry, not great ones.

  6. I was working on the Ford this past Sunday after it developed a miss on the right bank. The plug wires were routed under the exhaust manifolds and although I had the #2 & 4 wires in a fire proof sleeve, they burned through.

Good news is that there is enough length to let me route them over the manifolds. I have straight boots and terminals on order. I'll take pictures as I get it back together.

Repacked the front wheel bearings in the sunliner and need to find some cotter pins, the open late Autozone was useless so off to another parts store today.

  10. Hauled my tires, wheels, and tubes over to the kid's house so he could help me mount them (well I actually pretty much watched, he is a wiz with a tire spoon). Dug an assortment of '35 front fenders out of the woods behind his barn, brought them home to remove the inner panels and fender braces and sort out the best to repair and use. Also, scrubbed that nasty blue crap off the sidewalls of the new tires.

Boy I've got to do something more exciting than going out before heading to work and jacking up the front of a 49 cab sitting on a trailer and taking some photos for a guy on another board to keep up with this crowd.

  12. Met up with local HAMBer Zapato so he could introduce me to a local WA upholsterer he knows. Showed the trimmer my pile of interior parts and as of now my hardtop is 4th car on his list. And zap bought lunch!

Over the weekend I cleaned up the devastation left behind by the "new blown SBC into the Austin" thrash.
Can't have the shop clean for too long, so yesterday I pulled the 350/TH350 out of our "terminally stalled" El Camino project and rolled it into the shop. It's going into my '56 210. Today I separated the trans from the engine, wiped down the engine to see if I need to re-paint it, and I jotted down the ID #s to see what it really is. I sandblasted a pair of small ram horn manifolds, just in case...
Tomorrow I'll pull the late model Performer intake and replace it with a nice old C3BX - unless I decide to pull the heads for no good reason.

Programmed a $20,000 CNC milling machine to turn the end of a 3/4" round shaft, into 3/4"-DD.

When the leadman wasn't catching me, whittling on government projects was the most satisfying.

  17. Late post for yesterday, finished my F-1 drum to 9" axle centering rings and put the new 8.20's on the '35, looks OK, I think. We set Mike's Tudor body on & off a few times, trimmed the floor to clear the trans and started hacking up the firewall. Got back to the '35 and put the front fender brackets on and hung some fenders on to see
    how they might work.

Been strugglin' to get back out in the BillyBob Shop to get some work done but my weak efforts have been uneventful. It was mid-afternoon, Saturday, and I still had not made the move from the office to the shop. I opened a loud rude knock at the door to find Euge Reidy with an intervention team consisting of Wayne Harlow, Blake, Robert Martin and Ace. Euge has been anxious to put the head back on the Jimmy ever since we took it off sixteen months ago. The guy has no patience. It is still not ready to go back on so they looked for something else to do.

Ace said he could lap the valves so he and Robert proceeded with that while the rest of us supervised with beer in hand. Most of the time, however, was taken up with cleaning carbon out of the valve guides so the valves would move freely. Several methods were tried with the limited tools I had at hand, including paper towels and Seafoam additive but, we ended up with the best method being Hoppe's No. 9 solvent and a gun cleaning kit bottle brush. By the time these guys took off for the next show, nine valves of the twelve were lapped, and perhaps the visit was enuf of a kick in the butt to get me movin' again
