The car had been in the June of 86 Street Rodder mag in a little different form. Plans at this point are to get rid of the coil overs in front and fix the bodywork in the rear that's been butchered. Other changes like grille and wheels & tires will come later. The car has new black and white tuck and roll in it, which is a plus.

See that the cowl vent and a couple of door hinges are missing. Chop looks great in the pictures. Does the windshield still crank out?

Looks like a mostly high quality car with some bad styling decisions, I think once you're done doing your planned changes this will be a really great car without having to undo everything. I like the plan.

Chop is nice and you're right about the cowl vent and door hinges. Unfortunately, the window does not crank out.

Shit Riley, I just got it home last night!!! Rumor mill is FAST!!!

Yea, the car is really well built. It's a good platform to start with.

Don't think I'm going to mess with trying to get the cowl vent back in place. We'll see.
The front end and wheel/tire combo will definitely be changed.

Looks like with a few tweets, you will end up with a very slick traditional looking street rod!

At least they chromed the windshield frame. That's a very long hood on there. Did they lengthen the frame instead of recessing the firewall? You've got a lot of work to do on that rear pan. An original grill will help that a lot.

You might want to do away with the single chamber master cylinder also.

Why does the hood look so long?

The hood is longer partially because of the design of the aftermarket grille. Picture makes it look worse than it is. I'm going to be doing away with the hood latch mechanism too.

Personally, I am a streetrodder, but I agree with you, Bud. A transverse spring up front and some massaging out back would do that ride some good. Good luck.

I think I see a tube axle with hairpins. If that is correct, you would do yourself a favor by replacing said axle with an I-beam. The present setup is way too rigid to ever get a smooth ride, that is, the smoothest ride that can be had with split "bones", er, hairpins.

Yea the whole front end will probably be replaced at some point.

Thanks Xman! If I could make it look like your coupe I'd be in "hot rod heaven"!!!

No disrespect meant to anyone Gary, but I am more of a traditional rodder that likes rods of different era's. When I built my 32 roadster, I built it like I think someone could have done in 1958. My 34 5-window coupe was done close to a 1949 build. I hope to take this car back to a late 50's time.

Nice car, at first glance I thought it had IFS, how does that setup ride? Bob

No IFS Bob. It's and old Superbell tube axle with coil-overs. Rides good, but I just can't deal with the look of it.
I'll be putting on a dropped 34 axle with transverse spring.

  29. Congrats on obtaining a steel 33 in any form -let alone one that runs and drives- sounds like you are on the right path with a good plan!

Of course I remember the ZZ top car but I also remember a fenderless red coupe with wider lower profile tires on all 4 corners too in a 80s mag feature. Got any mag pics?
