I planning a 289 and combo going into a 1940 Ford still using stock front Suspension. Split wishbone. What oil pan ,exhaust manifolds, headers, etc. To put on the parts list
I have done this swap many decades ago and did not alter the firewall. I used a 1941 commercial front cross member and cut the stock pan to fit the cross member.A drivers side (USA) exhaust manifold from a early 66/67 Bronco likes the steering box. I used a C4 back then which cleared fine but do not know about AOD. The 1941 cross member raises the front end but a reverse eye spring and 2.5" dropped axle brought it back down nicely. (Dinosaur Advice).
I also have a Ford TOD p/u top loader 3spd.OD standard shift on hand if the aod is to big for the x member, an also looking for swap advice on using a Saginaw 525 steering box or other,?
I have not found a stock pan over the years that solves the problem if you want to save the firewall(personal call)......
What about the late Mustang Fox style double sump pan? Front sump is shallow. The AOD is a large transmission, not sure if it will go in the Xmember without a lot of surgery.
Falcongeorge...Thanks for the photos of what I see as the most intelligent swap of a Windsor into a 1935 to 1940 Ford passenger car.....
Sure miss Frank Oddo's tech articles. I just can't believe they have not done any articles memorializing him. I would love to have seen a feature on his 40 after it was redone in black.
This was my early attempt at a 289/c4 in a 1940 sedan delivery/ambulance leaving the firewall stock ....
Kinda off-topic, but figured I'd show the car, cause its such a beaut. Please excuse the drill hole. Young guys, beer and power tools. Yes, there was blood involved...
