I hate getting into a 32 roadster with fenders, running boards make it a pain in the ass. remember ( FTF )
Being the running board bolted on so nice, It's telling you ...... go for it! It's a 32 Roadster, It will be cool either way! (PS; My opinion is fenders)
The picture of Mark Mortens roadster should answer your question Thommo.....that is just about the best looking roadster ..ever. Fitting fenders properly,ie,perfect fit to the wheels/ stance, take a 32 roadster up to another level. Fitting fenders that don't fit right look horrendous....just my opinion...
Damn fellas, thanks for the replies, I'm more torn than ever. Still, the only thing I was missing were the front fenders, that's now taken care off. I've decided to mount them up, have to prep and paint first, but why not, make sure I'm careful and use welt so if I don't like it it's only half a days work to remove. Roadsters should have fender exemption by default, to leave it up to the owner's constantly changing taste. On, off, on again, ... At the moment I like your car without fenders more.
You know, it's funny, I think I liked highboys a lot more before every Swingin' Dick on the HAMB started telling us that real hot rods didn't have fenders. Sorta like how back in the eighties I was thinking I would like to build a solid front axle street car, and then in the nineties, they became "GASSERS!!!!" and all of a sudden, I didn't want one anymore... kind of a "guilt by association" thing...
Check to see how your rear wheels center in the fender opening. Wheel placement (wheelbase) can be slightly different for highboys vs full fendered 32's. Make sure before you get too far.
I like both styles!..........each style has it's own visual enjoyment and ideals.....it would be hard to choose fenders or not, on "your" car, simply because it would look so good either way!!! Personally, I like the ''bobbed'' look on rear fenders....kind of slick looking IMO, but the "full compliment of fenders" adds a nice 'complete' look with a fantastic design already in the original styling. I admit to be in a dilemma to choose yea or nay with fenders or not....ONLY to be completely satisfied with 2 separate, identical, fine looking cars with it's own set of fender considerations....it's a tough choice to lean only one way, when your car would look so good in either direction!.................................I mark the ''neutral'' box
Good look both ways but in my mind in keeping with the old thought of hotrods. You strip it down for less weight, I'd run it fenderless.
I love hiboy roadsters - esp of the late 30s/early 40s style. I also like fendered cars esp coupes that have been set up properly stance wise. Having said that - they're constantly evolving mate and we are a lot who get bored easily. Sometimes it harder to leave well enough alone than it is to aquiesce to boredom and temptation. As stated earlier, its your ride and they're just fenders... Just fit em up, taking particular care to get the stance dead on with the tires snugged into the fenders. Drive her around like that and enjoy - you WILL crave the fenderless look in time once again, so like you said, a few hours of wrenching and your'e back to a hiboy. Got stance ?
Every once in a while a fendered car comes along that says come, come closer, it's OK, I won't bite. Be very afraid, they lie, I've been bitten a few times, this is one of those times. The stance on this car, the black paint, wow. What a stunner.
I like chrome firewalls, even flat ones. When I do my T-Tudor, I wanna steal from Barris and use stucco textured aluminum. Plan to use it for the dash too.
It all has to do with "age", the younger rodders take things off, the older rodders keep adding to them, how old are you?
