Great job, Mike! The installation looks clean and the engine is beautiful. Cal custom VC,s? and the matching ribbed air cleaners are a nice touch. Do you have the carbs dialed in? The mint stock interior looks great with the tach on the column! You sure didn't waste any time! Are you planning suspension work, or going to ride stock height?

Hi, Hope your doing well, was thinking about you the other day. I had this thing running about a month ago after I did the install, and when I first started it, I had very low oil pressure. Took the engine back out and back the machine shop, and found that the 3 pressed -in plugs behind the cam sprocket were loose. we tapped the holes for screw in plugs. Put the engine back in and all is good now. I have it tuned and is a great runner. This winter I'm going to get the axle dropped along with a reversed eye spring and some bigger tires for the rear. The valve covers are cal-customs.

You have got me thinking I ought to scrap the flathead idea for my 46, and use what I already have: a 57 283. The pitted stagger hole, corvette valve covers would fit the patina image the old car already presents.

Well that's sound like another option. Just fair warning, henry ford didn't make it easy on us to hot rod the 41-48 fords!

Yes, but you have the template! I see you kept the battery in the stock position. On my forty, a 283 swap would have necessitated a battery relocation. Also, a swap into a 40 with stock drive line would need the chatter rod issue addressed. You are using the recipe for a classic, traditional, moderate hot rod! I hope you are going to use the stock rims with the red pinstripe!

Thanks, as far as the battery box goes, I wanted to keep it were it was. Using the ram horn manifolds, I had to raise the battery box up 3". Just added to the legs and put a heat shield under it so it would deflect heat from the battery. Need to put on some tube shocks, too spongey.

  16. He told me he'd sell it.. He has a finished one (it was red on the Draggins' car show poster a year or two ago and I have looked through my files for a pic with no luck), so I think the project could be reasonably had. Want me to ask?? Huh, huh?? Hee, hee..

  17. I'd be scared to know how much he wants given that most guys up here seem to think everything is gold so something decent must be like a diamond for price.

Got the dropped axle, spring, and raised crossmember in. Trying to put some weight on the front to see where it will sit when the motor goes in.

By-the-bye, do the Satan's Chauffeurs have a "pop" from time to time? Couldn't help but notice the vast collection of coolers on the shelf..!

Dave -- those are my prepacked travel ice chests. The bottoms are busted so they don't hold water/ice with out leaking. One has a bag of charcoal, a couple lighters, a small bucket BBQ, a couple hot dog sticks, and some soap for clean up. I can grab the ice chest down and toss it in the car and be ready to roll out. The blue metal one still works well. The plastic cheapy ones I used to carry my lunch in when I worked normal people hours.

Thanks for the encouragement on the sedan. It's coming along. Wish I had more time, more money, and more skill.
