My dad traded in cars in the late 50s and early 60s. Here he is with a 39 Ford, a 53 Ford & not sure what the 3rd car is. IMG_20161208_063502.jpg

The 3rd car appears to be a '57 Ford.

I have seen Gables T-Bird several times in the 1950's, driving around in the San Fernando Valley. It had a McCulloch supercharger installed. It was not unusual to see Gable cruising around Bob's in Toluca Lake or on Van Nuys Blvd. He was never against a little "street racing" on the old "River Road" near what became Forest Lawn Cemetery. He was a "car guy" and was easy to talk to, just one of the guys despite his fame...

It's back to 1926 for some Pontiac ads. Some of these look like the same ad but look at the print and there are different words with the same photo in some cases.

I think Gable was one of the fist generation of Hollywood bikers too.

  13. Gable was also a B-17 gunner with the 8TH USAAF in WW2.
He refused any special treatment, was almost killed on his first mission. Did his 25 combat missions like anyone else. Remember, "Gone With The Wind" was 1939, just before the war. He was a HUGE movie star and a REAL AMERICAN GUY!

  14. My old stomping grounds in the early 70's! It was kind of run down, lots of cheap rentals (housing).
Close to Laurelhurst Park, hippie central in those days. Several good Taverns with live music, kind of a past it's prime, mix of old folks and longhairs. Lived in a real haunted house! No kidding! We paid 190 bucks for a 4 bedroom GIGANTIC house on Salmon Street. 3321 to be exact!
Lot's of great times and great memories. Hippie girls!!!
I guess it's a damn hipster area now, rents and housing through the roof, the kind of stuff that "Portlandia" makes fun of!
