Remember when you could visit dealers and take one of each of all the models they sold?
    Replaced by trendy photos.

  7. Yes and no! I know the name, but I don't think I ever ate there, I was POOR then!
    I know it's a Puddletown institution!
Later had a girlfriend whose Mom owned the Sunnyside Tavern on Belmont ( I think), it was a very long time ago! I think the Sunnyside is long gone!
Went to the Belmont Inn, can't recall much else besides Fred Meyer and the Bagdad Theater and Denny's music down 39th.
My idea of fine food then was plastic wrapped sandwiches at the 7-11! Jeeeeez!

What's it look like on your side of town Maggie?

  11. Remember this guy?
Back in the day almost every neighborhood had one, the local gas station. Whatever brand.
In my neighborhood it was John of John's Chevron. Helped patch up bike tires, fixed stuff ( was an actual mechanic ), ran a business but HELPED people too!
My Grandfather ran a Chevron station in Scapoose for many years.

    What a concept!
The station is long, long gone. Those days were so cool!

  17. Yes, it's been shown here before. A NASCAR Tucker.

    HEMMINGS SEZ:
According to the blog post, a Tucker Torpedo raced in only one race, and it was at the Canfield Speedway in Youngstown, OH over Memorial Day in 1951. The photos you see to the right was dated 1951, but the NASCAR encyclopedias of Greg Fielden lead Hemmings to believe that it was actually the 1950 Memorial Day race that the Tucker was entered in.

During that weekend Canfield hosted the NASCAR Grand National Series, and the race itself was called the “Poor Man’s 500,” which was actually 200 laps, or 100 miles. A Joe Merola did indeed enter the Tucker in the race, but records show he finished in last place with no laps completed, meaning he entered but did not compete.

So, long story short, a Tucker Torpoedo did enter a NASCAR Grand National race back in the day, but it apparently never raced!

Used to see these behemoths all the time as a kid. We had a 50 Plymouth, neighbor a 55 pontiac! GREAT TIMES, I was a small child.

Those big radials sounded so cool!

This would have been after the big urban renewal demos of whole blocks. What's the big high rise? Part of PSU ? Just can't see it?
