    A couple of pictures of what used to be my daily beater of 10+ years and 300,000+ miles of great dependable service.... I know that the slant six isn't respected by many. But I can say that I can beat a lot of cars out here with it. Even the newer cars aren't much of a threat. My old 1969 Nova, in which I put the same effort into the 250 six, wouldn't even come close to keeping up with the Valiant. Even switching drivers between my buddies! LOL But everyone loved the Nova and very few like my Valiant. But I sold the Nova about 10 years ago, and kept this car, no regrets.

    The Valiant is yielding 232(.060" over bore) cubic inches, sports a Holley 4 bbl, big Schneider Cam, and I put a 4 speed OD behind it. My only weak link is the clutch. In the past 20 years of driving it, the small clutch(10 1/8") is my "Achilles Heel"....

    I want to achieve similar results in my 1938 Plymouth. But I will be using a 230 small six instead.

    I've posted my Inline on the HAMB before. Here's another look. 292, .030 over, 270 Cam, ported & polished. It's just a cruiser but Chevy Motor 2.jpg Left Rear View 2.jpg Chevy Motor 1.jpg it really goes down the road quite nicely with the 5-speed!

    Paintman27, If the cam is new keep the R's up above 2000 for the first 20 minutes of running. This is critical to get enough lube on the new lobes to keep them from being scrubbed off, since there is no pressure lube going directly to the cam lobes. (I'm hoping you really did break in the cam properly prior to making this video.)

    Those who disrespect the slant six don't once they run into one like yours. The Australian 3 Weber version was kick ass! :cool:

    The Aussie six was a "Hemi" configuration. It was a beast of a engine. Mine is the american slant six which started life as a humble 225. I put it on steroids on a dare.... A buddy of mine had a 1988 Mustang with a 302. I was going to pull the 225 and drop in my 340. He told me that I may be able to keep up with his car with a 340 in it. So I decided to build up the six to add insult to injury. In the quarter, I would take him by a whole fender length. He would leave me out of the hole, then I would run him down. Really fun stuff!

    My moto is simple, if you beat me, well it's a slant six. If I beat you, you lost to a slant six! Love it!

    Ok, I've got to know more about this. Henry's distaste for the inline six is infamous. But that doesn't look home-built. Secret project sanctioned by Edsel?

    I like the spark plug wire loom by the way. Also, the link belt fan drive. I may steal that on a future trad build. I already made a plug wire loom for one from an old steel table leg.

    This was built by Hall Scott for Ford and put in a '27 roadster and driven all over Detroit to fool the other car manufacturers into thinking this was the continuation of the Model T and the 1928 model. When the Model A came out it was shrouded in mystery and had lines around the dealerships to see the new car. After that it was relegated to the experimental room at Ford and sometime in the 1980's one of the former curators of the museum decided to sell everything in the experimental room.

    In the '80s the museum shipped several of those old Ford experimental engines over to the R&E Dynamometer Test Lab and they were put on display in our lobby. I was amazed at some of the early efforts - 4-valve cylinder heads, F-heads, 5-cylinders, OHC heads with shaft driven bevel gears - even the "X-motor" a radial car (truck??) engine with Model T based parts arranged in four banks of two cylinders each. I realized just about anything you can think of today was tried way back when. Materials and manufacturing technology finally caught up and some of those pipe dreams became feasible. Others not so much.

    This is very interesting stuff. Has this part of Ford history been written down? A book? A lot of Ford innards found their way into Chevy 4 cylinders as well as Chevy heads on Ford fours.

    75' Mercedes 2800, fuel injected twin cam, I6 upgraded with Turbo, 100_1384.JPG wasted spark and 5spd auto.
    Going into a 47' Chevy coupe. There is no Benz identification on the engine, should get some interesting questions

    I have a couple rides with 235 Chevys. My '53 5-window pick-up was my FIRST at 16, bought it Jan. of 1974, will be a retirement project next year. Runs a Sig Earson 264/.480 cam, Clifford long-tube headers, stock carb and intake. My '57 is a 150 2dr. sedan, Vega 4-speed behind the 235 with Schneider 260 cam, Clifford shorty headers, also stock carb and intake - but water-heated with Landon's kit, works BITCHIN'!

    I have a couple 261's, the '57 will get one nicely built, maybe the truck too. I have a 292 (sans head) that most likely go in the truck, since there is room! Both will NEVER see a V-8, for LOVE OR MONEY!!!

    You see one V-8 with a 4-bbl., you've seen them ALL... ;)
