Hell, remember when car mags had girls in them? Not Autobuff girls but real, classy everyday girls? Even Hot Rod Deluxe went PC a few issues ago. Sigh, you can have trashy chicks "twerking it" on tv during the dinner hour but you can't have an attractive woman in slightly snug fitting clothes standing next to a car in a magazine. What the hell has happened to this country?

I like the girls and looking at the dates that the magazines were published. The dates give a good indication of what was going on in the hot rodding world at the time.

I know what you mean. A good looking woman in normal everyday clothing can be most advantageous in the hot rod world. Trashy can be good in my back seat but it won't be at the dinner table with my family. Especially if her name is Bubbles and she pops her gum....

Times have changed, look at the import magazines and there are still some half dressed models but PLAYBOY magazine is not what remember from just ten years ago. HRP

Both of these were Petersen titles. HONK! only ran about 9 or 10 issues, and then was re-titled Car Craft. It was initially a little pages mag (both titles), and a knockoff of Rod & Custom -- which was not yet a Petersen publication.

  16. Here are a few from my accumulation:
CarToons;the 1st issue.IIRC the only way to get this originally was to subscribe to Rod & Custom for a year.
Popular Hot Rodding. This issue featured my all time favorite Deuce with the Eddie Martinez interior.
Customs Illustrated;another short lived "little" book.
Custom Craft.Only think they published a couple issues.
Custom Rodder issue #1 I don't think this had anything to do with the later magazine of the same name.
Then we have the Australian Custom Rodder.
Hop Up with the Kraft roadster on the cover. The reason it's B&W is I scanned it.
    Another Australian publication;Restored Cars.
    Rods Illustrated with Grabowski's T on the cover and Edd Byrnes driving.Another little book. CarToons0.JPG Blue3W.jpg CI.jpg CustomCraft1.jpg CustomRodder1.jpg CustomRodderAustralia73.jpg HopUpJune1953 1.jpg RestoredCarsAustralia.jpg RodsIllustrated.jpg

When I first got this issue I couldn't absorb the details of these two cars fast enough.
If I happen to stumble onto it when looking for something it never gets old going through it again. When I was planning my Roadster project I derived a lot of inspiration from it.
Major reason for the decision on the P.S. Eng. knockoffs on my car.
