Vintage shots from days gone by!

Bud Winfield is shown in this 1947 with one of the Novi supercharged V-8 powered racing cars he and his brother Ed worked to develop. It was an amazingly powerful car.

 

The fabled Novi engine. huge power, always a problem. It never reached it's theoretical potential, was trouble prone but HUGE ( for then ) horsepower.

The Cord's centrifugal supercharger was installed horizontally on top of the V-8 engine, and driven by bevel gears from the camshaft. The top-mounted exhaust manifolds on both sides led to the outside pipes.

…talking about steel trucks how about this Stude and what about the possibilities … for example it's a little known fact that most of these trucks came direct from the factory with tall cam profiled ported straight eights with full aspirated induction systems with optional blower and low tight ratio 6 speed transmissions, however sadly, most folks took these power units out once home and installed flat head sixes low grannie 3 speeds so as not to make too much of ruckus … :')

The Dodge Brothers New Six of 1930 was a 189.9-cid L-head engine that made 23.4 SAE horsepower and 61 developed horsepower. It had a pressure lubrication system.
