In 1968, all across the USA, VWs were the common place for the younger generation. “Peace, love, & rock and roll for all…”A lot of young people could only afford these empty shells as transportation. They held a lot of stuff, (including people) and were relatively inexpensive, a rolling home for some. (a precursor to the RV era) But, there were Westfalia campers, passenger vans, delivery vans and empty cargo vans that got converted into surfer wagons with built in stuff for those long surf trips. This version was the ultimate surf wagon. An all-wheel drive (4x4) with a supercharged Hemi inside. Not much room for camping stuff inside, but we would be able to get to the beach in record time…ha!

Arriving in style was the thing to do in the 60’s. Note: the surfer on the curl that is the rear motor cooling vent…Also, these vans were not the most streamlined as they pushed the most air away with the boxy confines. This one had a streamlined board container built into the roof to help the smoother air flow over the top. It would have an open area just above the driver’s head to click the shorter board(s) up in place, inside of the smooth shell above.

A $.50 piece and a quarter helped to make the wheels and Moon Discs. Yes, how does the motor hook up to power the wheels? Maybe a V-Drive, like the drag boat racers? (“power to the wheels”…sounds like a 60’s anti war slogan…)

Finally did one of my tudor, as it sits in my garage last weekend....Merry Christmas to all...

 

My son asked me to do some art work for him. He is an engineer at the Michelin plant in Fort Wayne Indiana. We came up with this... 22" tractor disc. with some vintage Michelin art. One shot paint does the job. Nunc Est Bibendum means "Now is the time to drink" Cool company motto.

This is a Carhartt jacket I airbrushed the other day for a good friend of mine. Haven't picked up an airbrush in nearly 15 years and the only one nearby was an old single action Paasche. Did a rough sketch in charcoal and used 1-Shot for the colors. Think I'll stick to striping.
