Hi Hilo hotrodder....we planned to..just got the steering box in my 29 Phaeton..I dont think it'll be legal by then...wouldn't haul the banger sedsn over there...it's fun to drive but not gor a whole week...ww'll see.. Tommy
Finally scheduled the heart transplant. Anyone knows the difference between the 2 blade and the 4 blade prop? Thanks for all your help Randy! With the motor out I just had to fix the Plywood FireHazardWall. When I bought the Sedan the seller included / cut out his firewall but wanted the structural integrity on his body until he welded in a engine tub, so he cut it around the perimeter....Sure beats not having a firewall at all! The tank was leaking fuel and I found out it was full of small rocks...? Gutted.
Inside of Tank / Dash painted Ol' fire wall cut out. Fits.. Got the grime off. 4 blade prop and a different front motor mount... Truck Engine?
The new banger looks good. I hope you are still planning on using the 4 blade fan. If the 2 blade is an original one, they have been know to come apart and damage radiators etc.
Firewall's finally fire proof.. Funny how the Garage turns in to a total mess sometimes. (Work...Torrential Rain throw the $#!+ inside and close the garage door...work...repeat) I envy those guys that have all the wrenches and other tools painted in the drawers...Maybe one day?
Radiator leaked pretty bad... took it apart and Found a big blob of solder... ...Tried to fix it "fast" without taking the support off....twice.... ended up taking me three times as long.... Got the support soldered back together again. Hopefully we'll be cruising on Labor Day.
That took longer than planned...didn't wanna post untill i knew the engine was good. The old (2 years) battey died (semi died)...so I thought I had a dud engine first... now the brushes are smoking pretty good (engine came with another starter) Tanks inc wanted more in shipping than the tank $ So I used my swap meet find...(the cap will get an vent hose to under the floor.) No fuel lines in Hawaii..used brake lines / fittings from NAPA. should be fine with alcohol free gas. Fuel pump + Holley pressure regulator set to 2psi. Fuel Switch THE ENGINE RUNS LIKE A DREAM!!! QUIET! NO SMOKE! NO LEAKS!... Good Deal! Thanks Bobby!
Time to shuffle again...getting dark... Sedan / Hot Rod tow truck is done for now...fancy roof and everything. Back to work on the tub.
Sedan needs a new head gasket for tomorrow's Car Show... I think this one should do it...?...If I could only get the darn Head Off the car first!!...ANY GOOD SUGGESTIONS?
Have you tried loosening off the head stud nuts, then tried to crank it over to see if the compression will lift it??
Good Idea waxhead....i dowsed the head studs with penetrating oil...tomorrow I'll see if your trick works...
So this is where I'm At...... Oops...Have A nice New one! Found this on HAMB off course...! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...er-head-inliner-head-or-flathead-head.218487/ Think I'll try the starter fluid / sparkplug method first... Next the Plate / sparkplug bolts...
Front Wheels are off the ground...Sitting in car...running the starter... Soaking with Penetrants, ATF / Acetone, Heat... Bottom end is good & I don't think the starter fluid trick would do any good... I'm starting to wedge a sharp thin spackling knife on top of the gasket... Studs would probably snap in the head if i tried to get them out... Any other ideas?
HELP!...Christmas cruise coming up! Headline News! BBQ - Heated the head to 600F (IR temp gun) outside and inside the water channel.... Hoping to burn any sealants, shellac etc...Still not budging....! When running the starter and a fresh coat of penetrant on all bolts and around the head gasket... There's bubbles coming out around the head gasket, mostly on the drivers side and some of the bolts... Any last ideas B4 I break off the studs in the head? A Cornwell A201 stud remover should arrive any day now... DYNAMITE?
Remove a spark plug, preferably from an end cylinder, crank engine over until the piston is low in the cylinder, insert a length of nylon 3/8" rope through the spark plug hole, then crank engine over. By applying cranking pressure and any other external lifting/prying methods simultaneously, it may give you the edge you need to remove the head. Good luck!
I have welded the nuts to the studs the. Quenched with wax and backed them out with an impact. Ruins the studs and nuts though. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks A2B I've heard that idea before...I'm afraid to damage the Babbitt bearings though... Another idea was to wire all spark plugs together to the coil...Spray starter fluid in all holes and fire all four at the same time...Same thing, I think it may damage the bearings? 2nd LAST RESORT! Mahalo Junkyard Kid Mac's and Snyder's sell studs so that's probably my next project...I'll try with my stud tool..if that doesn't work .. I'll TIG the Nuts on and hit it with the impact! Did you do that with the head still on or off? Last Resort is cutting the head off....I can get a new aluminum head for ~ $400. Reason? No-one does Babbitt Bearings on the island anymore! And machine work to convert to "real bearings" is too much $$$/HP for my taste...
Hi Gregg Nope...Just stole her Shoes for the Tub, So Maybe she'll blow a gasket...? I'm going to try your method and also introduce the Air Chisel for some vibration...
