1966 Isle of Man TT, champion of ultra lightweight class Ralph Bryans talks about coming out of turns at 105mph on his Honda 50cc....

Like coming down a mountain pass on your husky 10 speed at 100mph, you need balls (soccer balls, he was Brittish) of steel.

No "roll cage" there, or on Marty's bike

I'm not sure whose car Al was driving, but that has to be one of the few photos anyone will ever see of him on Goodyear tires.

Just busting your cookies. I totally understand the " had to race something." I saw the kid at B-ville on the moped go 74 in 2012. He was as proud as anyone there and should have been.

  13. I am fairly sure that is Mike Hailwood on the six cylinder Honda 250 in the lower picture. He won the 250cc TT at an average speed of 103 mph. Ralph Bryans won the 50cc TT at an average of 83 mph.

Spa circuit in Belgium was one of the fastest tracks. I recall reading about a 50cc event held there in the 1970s where the winner averaged 105 mph and achieved a top speed of 128. By the end of the 50cc GP era (1983) they were getting over 20 bhp from them.

images.jpg That "Sherman-Allinson'' post #121211 above, (the sporty stream-lined race car,) sure looks like it has a micro-car "Messerschmidt'' grille & headlight setup! Very aerodynamic looking to be sure....hadn't thought of using a micro-car grille on a hot rod....interesting!

  22. I could be wrong but that sure looks like Tom McCahill from Mechanix Illustrated Magazine. Probably "road testing" this new model Crosley with the gang-mower on the back.

I believe that is a Messerschidtt micro-car ''top'' they used along with the grille set-up, now that I checked it out...the roof lines and slope of rear window chrome is the same...man, that car took some imagination!....this pic here, doesn't show the 'visor' on the hot rod included...but it looks to be the same top design. They apparently used a 'single' sheet of glass on the sides on the hot rod, instead of the sliders. messerschmitt.jpg
