I contacted my hot rodding friend who has always been an avid photographer and somewhat of a historian on early hot rodding. Peter was a founding member of Rods Inc in 1964 and I joined in 1976 after coming back to Brisbane.
Here is Peters response.

I took both those photos. The run was a Rods Inc run to Boystown. I think the ’34 belonged to Peter Rhodes, followed by Warren Wilkie’s ’30 roadster.

All the cars in the colour photo were mine, about 1972 or ‘73. The grey stovebolt was my daily driver, and the ‘37(?) sedan was an investment. I bought both the Chevys from my good friend Terry Collins; $80 for the driver, and $30 for the fixer-upper. I made $10 on the ’37, so much that I thought that I might do that for a living.

I bought Norm Dean’s unfinished channelled ’32 roadster in ’69 or ’70; it was set up for a 272 and 3 speed manual. I soon ‘fixed’ it though, by un-channelling it, and setting it up for a 283 and cast iron ‘glide. I also had Velnagel Brothers drop the ’32 axle. Like his brother’s ’32 roadster, the deck lid had fallen off the car when it was being trailered, and therefore was to have a glass deck lid.

The roadster was progressing slowly, but after I got my ’30 sedan on the road, I sold it to pay for the paint job. John Philpot bought the roadster, in ’78 I think, and it went to the US.

Wasn't that Antelope, Oregon? The Bagwan (a cult leader from India) moved into the area and his followers held political office and renamed to town Rashneeshporum? (however it's spelled) He had 10-12 Rolls Royce cars painted crazy scenes like a 70's van.

 

I remember seeing that giant machine from "Damnation Alley" parked there just off the freeway while on a trip down to San Diego with my parents. Must have been very late '70s or early '80s.

My good friend that got to ride the Hondas in motoX while in Japan?

His baby sister (whom I dated), decided to become a hippy. Well, that is, she decided to make it formal and move out to that bagwan doods place. Her official role was as a sign painter - street signs, welcome signs, whatever.

Yeah, free love, free food, work your azz off and live like bums is more like it.

Then a couple years after, she and her new boyfriend moved to Denver, came to Michigan to visit the parents with their 1962 red & white VW bus - and I had to spot them the money to get back to Denver - so I inherited the bus.

Was a cool old ride.

When I dated her, she was so skinny you could thread a needle with her and not touch either side. Last I heard, she married a welder in the Denver area, who started a welding shop with money they mooched, and her rear - well it now looks like a VW bus.

Ah.....

Later in the 60's Pontiac successfully crossbred these two. The result was a highly desirable car, that kept the name of the animal.
