Looking for ideas for my 28 coupe .As of now the license plate hangs under the body and it has a single model a tail light mounted in the middle .I would like to use the stock spare tire bolts to mount the plate does any one make a plate mount using these bolt holes .Any pictures suggestions is appreciated
Made a real simple bracket for my coupe. Took two bolts that fit the mounting holes, drilled and tapped them for a 10-32 screw. Then used counter sunk screws in a 3/16 strap the right width to mount the tag with nuts welded to the back of the strap.
Tail lights are 47 Chevy. Tag light is 53 Lucas. Plate mounts are 4 raised bosses pressed into the panel to lift the plate off the panel. Not show is a steel plate backer for the plate to prevent it getting bend and a thin chrome surround trim. Ends up looking like this Good luck Canuck
s**** metal 48 any pics of your gas tank and filler tube im thinking of relocating mine in the similar are ..
Some one beat me to the '54 buick lights. I also used an vintage plate light i found at a swap meet. The wire for the plate light goes through the big spare tire hole and the plate covers the lower holes.
Sedan, but it could work on a coupe too. '39 teardrops and a recessed plate ( light in the top recess)
I must say I pretty much like all of the taillight ideas on here. Don't forget the stock Model A lights as well, while these in this picture of my old Model A are surface applied they look good as well molded into the sheet metal.
Still a month away, but a pair of '50 pontiacs, '47 ford parking lights as back ups, and this coke bottle opener as plate light... going to weld most of a used harley davidson handle bar upside down as a front spreader bar and plate / club plaque mount... '30 A pix to come.... pic of a front plate mount i did years ago...
Stock "drum" tail light with plate light in the bottom. Added a couple of Harley "bullets" for outside marker/ running lights
I like the early stock drum taillights better than the later teacup ones you see a lot of. A lot of prewar builds use them. Ford ran the drum taillight in 28 and the teacup ones came in late 28 or very early 29. I am not too sure exactly. Not that the history matters when building a hot rod. This is the same set up I have now but mine tail light has a rear back up light .I need to get a picture posted
Not tail but front signal lights on my truck. The idea was to find a "bucket" that would work as a light housing. A larger "bucket" could work for tail lights. Found the lights at Restore for $10.
