GASSER MUST HAVES and cant haves?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by DirtyDave, Aug 4, 2013.

  1. Sorry not much to post. They haven't told me an outcome of the tire evaluation. They did issue me a credit. They also sent a registration card for the other tire in case of recall. I have no complaints nor regrets with Coker. I chose not to replace the tire due to the need to get the car on the road in a couple days as well as being spooked.

  2. As for bigger better Gasser questions my winter plans include replacing the rear springs as they are failing likely due to age and the longer shackles. I also plan to swap out the basic floor shifter with a ratcheting "truck" shifter so I can race next year. I also hope to get a Lakewood style roll bar in it this year.

This is from over a year ago... but I noticed the tri Y header for the driver's
side wasn't split for the 5/7. 'Must be the negative got reversed', says me.
Mag is on the wrong side, too.... Only then did I see the steering column
on the 'passenger' side! Shows that an old gearhead looks at the engine
first and the car later! Proofreader missed it, too......... Willy

Finally got all 124 pages read! Found several 'tunnel rams weren't
out 'til 68' replies, too. Never knew the Caudle guy but I sure knew
about Ralph Ridgeway, being from NY with him running all over
NY and New England. I still have the two 64 pop top vette fuelie
setups. Bill Thomas was experimenting with them in CA for road
racing, I think. He put 2 venturies on the top and used the vette FI
pump and nozzles, with a modified spill valve and enrichment
system. Ralph's 2 409 AFBs made more power, I'm thinking. That
was what I was doing when my 'Uncle' called in October, '66......
    TET '68.

The Keel family towed a World of Outlaws sprint car all
over America with a 1 axle hauler. I asked Dan about it
and he just showed me a NYS thruway toll ticket.....

Beautiful car! Question, though... do those riser blocks (combined with the
drop axle) put a lot of torque on the springs from the front brakes? I'm
looking for an axle and spring(s) to replace my A arm front end.

  17. I have a wheel question... I see pics of gassers with steel wheels, did anyone ever run spider caps on them or is that a newer thing?

Spider caps aren't nesscesaraly a newer thing, but more a custom or street thing. Don't think I've ever seen some on a "real" gasser.

Sorry for the delay WillyB...it has been a while since I checked this thread.....SANDERSON
....and by the way, the VHT lasted about 8 minutes. So I wrapped them in the new Titanium Header Wrap. Helped the looks and temperature.

In the day hubcaps of any type must be removed before competition. UNLESS they were bolted or screwed on.

Thanks bud, I'm in England so not so easy to find the period parts for gassers here, but I did try to build it as it they would of done in the 60's with the same kind of thinking, the whole car was built on the front of my house.
